Hello,

I'm new to BC and have just dicovered this amazing vehicle from Japan (Delica) and it's following. I've had a Honda Civic Wagon for years and wished for something a bit bigger with some real off-road capability, ideally with a turbo diesel and manual gearbox. The Deli fits the bill as a versitile rig for camping, hauling, and as a mechanical hobby. Ultimately I would like to buy or build a lifted model with all the goodies, but I'm not sure of what years/models to look for and what ones to stay away from. Also, contacts for finding/importing one would be a big help.

I've been a shade tree mechanic all my life and look forward to hooking up with others with an interest in this hobby via their Delica. Any comments and suggestions would be great! I really look forward to getting involved with the club and going on some adventures this year once I get my Deli.

Welcome, most of us here have 88-93 versions (L300) as thats within the 15yr import rule. Also in 94 they redesigned the Delica and not all people feel it was an upgrade. They are all welcome here all the same, there is talk of a seperate section for the L400 so that there is no confusion about gettin techincal specs. mixed up.

Welcome to the club, Baer ~

I really dig my Chamonix GLX P25 (low roof). She is a late '92 model. She has a winter package, which includes a duel battery set up in parallel (12volt EMF w/1100 cold cranking deep cycle amperes of current). Being a Chamonix she has more durable carpet & upholstery; a heavier duty paint job (intended for Hokkaido where the winters can be cold). Being a P25 (low roof model) she fits into most underground car parks and under more branches & fallen trees. Being a late '92 model she comes with venting dimples under the rear windscreen, which avoids trapped water that can develop into cancer. The seating configuration is a middle bench seat that has an alternating seat back so I can set her up in a carriage arrangement as well as the standard forward facing configuration.

That being said, the other models have their benefits as well ~ it really depends on what your needs are. Some drivers drastically gut their ride and lay down new floors &c., anyway! I would recommend studying the "Delica Canada Technical" forum, in particular: "Delica Modifications" & "Delica Wiki".

I would further recommend keeping an eye on "Events - BC Lower Mainland", which is in the "Delica Canada General" forum. This way you get to meet the Delicas and their drivers in person ~ and if you play your cards right ~ you might get them to talk about their Delica
