Road trip across Canada/USA (on wvo)

Our little family will be travelling to Europe most of the summer with a pit-stop to "La belle Province". Over a year ago I managed to convince my wife to drive with our 5 months old boy (at the time) to Quebec in our '78 VW bus. We were on the road for 5 weeks, great times! Now she knows better so she's going to fly with our new-born while I'm still crazy enough to do the drive with our 2 yrs old boy Maceio. It will be the 8th time that I cross the country, guess I don't learn how fricking far it is! At least this time it will be in a Delica :-D . My wife and new-born will catch up in Quebec a few weeks later and we'll fly to Europe from there.

I really want to do most of the trip on veggie. I know I can't carry enough to make it to Montreal but I'll take as much as I can. In this post, http://www.delica.ca/forum/posting.php? ... =12&t=3502 Andrew and Adam give a good idea of how much one can take along. I'll have the same rear basket as Adam with 12 cubes (about 450lbs), but no passengers and no rear bench (only captain chairs, that's where I sleep) so I could put some more at the back. Still trying to figure if I should/could bring my filter/pump to process as I go along (de-watering may be an issue). I already started looking at where I could buy filtered wvo throughout the States (only using craigslist for now).

This trip should happen mid/late April, returning early October.
Here's a few questions:

- Anyone interested in tagging along for part or the whole trip? (No no, not Europe, just the Canadian part!!!)

- How much weight can I carry at the back of the Deli (considering I'll have that 450lbs basket and minimal gears)?

- Anyone that could help me with wvo supply along the way? Alberta, Manitoba... or States (contacts)?

- Any good web-site to find wvo supply? (www.fuel4free doesn't seem very active).

- Anyone needs something dropped off along the way (as long as it's not too big/heavy)?

- Meet along the way? (ok, warm showers wouldn't hurt either... but truck-stops will do fine!)

I'm sure more questions will arise but just thought I'd get a head start.

Thanks,
David and Maceio

You are welcome to crash at our place (depending, as always, on exactly when). When you know the date, we can also arrange a meet so you can meet the Calgary-area Delis. Sounds like a wonderful trip. I've done 4 round trips to or from the east, none in the Delica, so I know how long it is. And how wonderful a country we have here.

Hi David you can likely stop in Salmon Arm and get some oil.
You will likely also be able to get oil in Winnipeg. Email me for details, not PM, saves me logging in, Safari browser does not seem to remember me. Cheers

Thanks guys, that's great news!

I've already got a PM from Manitoba for oil and couch! :-D If I can luck out and make it to the Alberta meet on the way that'd be more bonus points! The nice thing is that I'm taking my little boy with me so I won't be able to do my typical 16hrs/day drive and will need to make regular stops/detours to keep him entertained... Should be interesting!

See you along the way!

David

ps. Did I already mentioned this club is amazing :M

Ya, and you are one of the reasons.

I believe Robinimpey in Strathmore (just east of Calgary) has a source of biodiesel.

You're welcome to stop in/stay with us in Kamloops-- though we may be a little too close to your starting point to be the first overnight stop (that said, maybe not too close with a toddler on board!)!

Thanks again everyone! Kamloops might be an excellent first pit stop with a little bambino!
