Erebus (Fred and Leslie from Calgary) used flat ammunition boxes, as they are weatherproof, painted silver to match the rack, you barely notice them in his rack as they are the same height (look at his signature photo). He bolted them to the rack so would not slide around, and also harder to steal (looked very good, very professional, low profile, he and Jay drilled them in place in our yard). They drove all the way to the North, seemed pleased with them. cheers, Christine.

Meanman: I thought about them too, but I actually don't need the cases that water/air-tight and protective. It's more for sensitive equipment. I just want to store tools and spare parts in it.

Christine: That's a option I also had in mind. Will have a look around in the surplus stores and try to find a few rusty ammunition boxes. Specially now with my addiction to sand blasting they could turn out quite nice :)

Tardis more or less answered for me. Ammo cases are steel, not aluminum. Just a slight correction: they aren't entirely waterproof. They have 4 one-quarter inch holes in the sides. I covered them with tape. The ends of the boxes are crimped, and if you fill the box with water it leaks out. However, on the aforementioned trip, no water got into the boxes and that's more important. And nothing has leaked in since. They are very tough, since the original contents weighed in at 60 pounds, and are normally palletted about 6 high. Ammo cases come in a variety of sizes, I can't remember for sure, but I think mine are for 120mm mortar rounds. About 1' x 2' x 8" high. Photos available on trip log. Oh, and they have carrying handles on the ends.

For ammo cases look at the supply store on Broadway by Woodland. The place with the gorilla on the curb...

Oh, I forgot to mention, my cases were about $60 each at Crown Surplus in Calgary.
