Little burpie on first gas

Hi, new to the import world and I've got one of the few kickass strada's running around.

Anyways, this will happen on first start up in the morning if I don't let the truck warm up for a minute or so.

Give it some gas, the rpm's climb to 1200 or so, then there's a little burp where the engine gives no power (it's still running) and then it just starts to go again like nothing happened.

Injectors need cleaning? if so, what's a recommended method/
any other ideas?

FYI
Strada is the same engine as the delica, 4d56t...

Hey,
I have not done an IP rebuild on mine yet, but it definitely is happy happy little
deisel injector pump (HHLDIP)when I let it warm up for 3-5 minutes.
Its been my experience with all my vehicles as well as pounded into my
head at mechanic school to let your engine come up to temperature before you
use it. Cuts engine wear way way down.

Having said that there are lots of posts on here raving about the benefeits of having you IP
rebuilt. A few brave people even changing out some of the seals themselves!
(I will need my Kamakazi headband and downtime for that!)

Right on! 8-)

Please post it if you figure what specifically the issue is!

What do you mean by use it? I generally get rolling as soon as the idle is steady without me touching the throttle - in the summer that's pretty much straight off while this time of year maybe 30 seconds or a minute. I always go especially easy (not much above an idle) for the first few minutes after that, until she's right up to full operating temperature, but generally drive pretty easy all the time. Wouldn't want to hit the freeway or grind up a steep grade when cold, but I am confident easy puttering is a safe way to warmup the motor... :M :-D

it's the best way imo and that of a mechanic friend or 2.

But that only warms up the engine, not the rest of the running gear. Should just drive slowly and gently. Besides, diesels take forever to warm up at idle. And at -20, if you stop with a fully warmed up vehicle and let it idle, the engine temp drops way down -- even with cardboard covering most of the rad.
