Newbie questions with New Delica

Old style square headlights - Noticed they are super dim in general. Then checked the search for any reference and found this :

Do I need to change the wires as indicated? Just want a bit more feedback before I do it. Not because im chicken but because it's Saskatchewan and it's cold out. No garage :) Don't want to freeze my fingers needlessly.
Next question: Is it worthwhile to change over to the square headlights that allow you to simply change the bulbs? Will I still need to swap the wires over as indicated in the previous question?
I am trying to ascertain if I need to change my timing belt. The owner who had brought it over said that everything was done to it. However when I asked him if it was changed he didn't know. Just said that everything was done. He also said that he had it in at CVI (not sure about the order of those initials) in BC and they did a tuneup, timing adjustment and checked it out. Would they have checked the timing belt too? What's your thinking on this? I don't know if CVI would have records easily checkable from last year.
4X4
If I lock the hubs then drive around in 4WD then switch the lever to 2WD does that allow me to stay in 2WD but able to switch back in to 4WD on the go? I realize to disengage the hubs I need to back up.
Ideas and info on this if you can

Hi James and congrats on your new Delica!
I'll just help you out with the 4x4 question. You are right, once your 4x4 is engaged/locked (initial engagement is usually done on neutral and not moving) you can shift back and forth between 4x4 (high) and 2x4 as long as you're below 80km/h. And to un-locked you got it, just reverse until you hear a click under your foot area.

OK, this may be an incredibly stupid question as I am also a new Deli owner.
If you can shift on the fly once the hubs are locked, why ever unlock them? Is there a disadvantage to running with the hubs locked all the time?

btw, you can shift on the fly but you should try to make sure you're going straight and none of your tires are slipping at all or you will end up with a loud grinding :(

James.
Pop the engine compartment and have a look and see if Butch put a CVI Deli Tune sticker on the flat metal surface where the factory stickers are. It should have the month and year it was done. From that he should be able to pinpoint where to look in his records. Jill should have it on the computer somewhere.

You can't leave them locked all the time unless you never put it in reverse. As soon as you back up, pop, out they go.

I came across a delica owner who wasn't sure if their stock auto hubs were working properly.
Turned out that they weren't.
Put it into 4H and drive forward until the wheel lock light comes on. (locks hubs and engages the front driveshaft)
Keep driving forward and put it back into 2H while moving forward. (this disengages the front driveshaft)
Put in park, turn key off, put a wheel chalk on the rear wheel, jack up front so both wheels are off the ground.
Rotate one of the tires. One rotates clockwise, while the other rotates counter-clockwise = your auto hubs are working.
Rotate one of the tires. One rotates clockwise, while the other does not move = your auto hubs are not working and need to be replaced.
I think a lot of people may not realize that their auto hubs are both working properly or not. Check !

Yes, it is "CVI", I know this 'cause I was there just yesterday... smiles.

Good luck James. The folks at CVI are great. I've been dealing with them this week doing tweaks on the new bus. Great service. Freakishly thorough knowledge of Delcas.

Thanks for the info.
I didn't get a reply on the lights however I think I will try and
reverse the wires to see what happens. I was pretty sure
the hubs locked the way I was thinking but it never hurts to
have a little backup on that ;)
