I looked at a couple Pajeros this weekend and both had a moonroof that moved very slowly. They both nearly stopped 1/3 of the way open, and got going again with some pushing. They still moved very slowly. Got bored waiting for them to open so never got them 100% open. Is it common for moonroofs to get sticky or die?

mine worked relatively well when i bought it but in the past couple months, it wont even close all the way... i get soaked when i brake in the rain.

When, I bought mine, the leading edge of the sunroof frame was completely rusted out and it was almost completely frozen while trying to open and close it - about 3 inches of movement in either direction.

I took it out, ground the whole thing down with a wire wheel, bondo'd the leading edge and painted it. I lubed up the tracks with slicone grease and now the whole assembly works as good as it ever did.

I also had to fix a problem with the pop-up windscreen in which it wouldn't pop-up as the sunroof was rolled back and would prevent the sunroof from being closed. It was likely this that caused the rust in the first place.

Yours probably just needs some silicone grease and to be worked back and forth a bit if you don't have the rust problem.

I did the exact same thing to fix mine. however, my popup works fine and I still had plenty of rust. I have been told that the rust is common on pretty much all the pajeros and its just some design flaw or something. So after I replaced the seal, I also filled the part where the seal meets the glass with clear silicone to make sure there are no leaks. Overall, it's a fairly simple process and would recommend that anyone with a sunroof problem do it to prevent more rusting and other issues.
