So, I did this mod last week as mentioned in the Wiki, and now my battery is dead. I'm assuming it may have something to do with this. But, it could also be that the deli has been sitting for quite some time and we've just had ANOTHER cold spell. Though she is a cold weather (2 batts).

great mod. lights up the sides when you're driving down a dark road/trail.
your batteries
are they the same? stock japan one's ? new one's ? good alternator ? good voltage regulator ?
many symptoms for dead batteries

Also check the connections to the battery terminals. I had one which was not tightening down onto the post (changed it), and that will not give a good charge to the batteries when running.
And I'll echo jfarsang's comment about the batteries being the same/changed at the same time: a bad battery is more likely to kill a new good battery, not the other way around (a new one revive a bad one). It's just the way batteries work (regardless of type), which is always why it says on the package to change them all at once and use the same ones/same kind/same size/etc.

I guess such mod is popular, why do you do this?

Because Canadian law requires side marker lights, it's much nicer looking to modify these ones than to add aftermarket ones.

hmm, she seems fine now, must have been the infrequent starts and short running intervals paired with the cold weather. Good to know nobody has had any slow drain issues. I was just worried that it may be an incomplete circuit since I was interrupting a ground signal. My EE skills are scant and I can't remember what I learned long ago.
