Hey anyone got an alternator rebuilt in vancouver yet? would love to go to someone whos done one before.. usually saves time explaining things..

Anyone know how to check if its the voltage regulater or the alt? James?

was able to drive for quite somtime on a dead battery if it happens to anyone else.

Yikes,
What caused it? Wired something yourself? Had a pinched wire? Tried welding the frame while the vehicle was running? Jump started by a lightning rod? What?
You can get alternators rebuilt as long as the voltage reg is not pooched.

Just plain wore out I think? no welding, lighting bolts, jump starts, etc. seems somewhat common.. I went thru so many starters and alternators in my old chev van. so im used to wear and tear. just drop it out and hitch a ride to lordco. this one might be somewhat harder.

im going to check all the connections (belts are on) and get it tested before I take it out as it looks like shitty job... any tips out there?

anyone know if they used the same alt- vaccum pump combo on the 2wd van wagons they have over here? pajero? montero?

I just finished removing and installing a rebuilt alternator in my daughters Pajero. It was a couple of hours of @^$%$# ing and bruised knuckles! but it works fine now. I believe the Pajero has the same 90 amp alternator but I think the alternator on the Delica is actually just a bit easier to get at than the one on the Pajero. Oh, I paid $200.00 for it from the people in Coombs. I believe the rebuild was done at Flesh Electric here in Nanaimo.

If you have a voltage meter you can test to see if you are getting 14 volts coming out of it. You just need to find the alternator then put the probes on the corrisponding terminals.(you know + on + and - on -) Haven't tried but any auto electronic rebuild place should be able to do the repair.

Yeah.. got the alt rebuilt.. $120 (did the labor) at mircle electric in burnaby, needed bushings and bushes, also had a bunch of oil from the vaccum pump in it so riged up a new o-ring for that.

was'nt as painful as it could have been.

Sorry Mitch, a little slow on the reply. That is about what I paid for the first rebuild. The regulator is about $70, bearings cheap and an hour labour. I found for tensioning the belt, those Canadian Tire ratcheting box end and swivel head fit in there perfect, otherwise it is a B$^$#^%^#%.
