Warning to all Deli owners!

Don't lend your Deli to a mate!

My mate (also my house-mate) asked to borrow my Deli over the weekend because he needed to tow his boat and his van is off the road needing repair. Fine, no probs, he's a good mate and has used my vehicles before with no probs. He got back last night and I wandered out to get something out of the van and there was a chuffing dent right in the middle of the rear door. Not huge, but very noticable. Def wasn't there before and someone has rubbed the dirt and dust off it where the dink is (obviously feeling how big the dent was).

He denies doing it, and fair enough he may not have done, but it's the fact that there was no "oh crap, sorry mate, I hadn't realised" or anything, it was simply "wasn't me" and then buggered off with absolutely zero concern about it. I'd have felt awful if a mates car got dinked when I was in charge of it. No respect for other peoples stuff :| And the dink also happens to line up with where the spinika (sp?) ejects from the front end of the boat, so I'm not overly convinced he didn't know anything about it.

He's now banned from driving it, along with my other house-mate, but that's simply because he's a crap driver :-D

Anyhow, just needed a mini rant :-)

Enjoy your Delis! 8-)

Sounds like there is more than one dink in your story and the biggest one isn't on the rear door... :x

That's the problem with owning a rare breed of vehicle - always gotta be on the lookout for the numpties on the road. The real trouble is when they're behind the wheel! Ouch!

I find I'm going through intersections a little more slowly of late, and I don't know if that's because more Victorians are running lights, or I've just become more cautious. Too often in the past couple of weeks, I've started out into an intersection after the light has gone green for me, and vroooooommmm! there goes that last car through their now-red light. Good thing I upgraded the front brakes to the GENII dual-piston brakes!

Anyway, there are some shops now that can suction-cup a dent out of the body panel, and the paint won't even crack! Sorry, I don't know where there is one in NZ, but it can be considerably cheaper than looking for a new rear gate (unless it's worse than that). I think Falco had some work done of this kind, and described it here on the forum.

Dave... I feel your pain. Here's a link to that thread that Mararmeisto was referring to:

http://www.delica.ca/forum/oh-my-god-o-4252.html

I was fortunate that the actual collision happened on the rocker panel and bent my sliding door from there and the paint wasn't broken. Although I must say that I didn't take it directly to this guy, if I had the finished product might have been better. The metal was stretched and I can still see it from some angles. She looks pretty good.... I can still see the difference. But man you should have seen it when I first discovered it  . I love my van. But there are alien predators out there who don't comprehend these things :x .

Just remember: "Paintless Dent Removal". That is what it is called here. There will be some who will walk away from the job but there are others who will take it on, who know what they are doing. Don't let anyone use bondo on your van. Many people were telling me that it would cost as much as $1600.00, using bondo and inferior paint. Get good paint, but only if you really need it. If it is a scratch in the paint, but not through the paint ~ chances are you can cut-polish it out. In the end it cost me $450.00 ~ a third of what had been previously quoted to me ~ and I am sure that there will be guys who do "PDR" in NZ... smiles.

Falco.

Cheers for the info guys.

That panel work is impressive, Falco! Thankfully my dent isn't anywhere near that big! I'm still going to try and get it out though when I get the chance.

Cheers for now,
Dave :-)
