I am currently choosing if i should go with a 2.5L or a 2.8L pajero
I heard somewhere that there are head problems with the 2.8L
is this true?
I also here a big difference is the 2.5 had a timing belt and the 2.8 had a timing chain.
Manual transmission would be my pref.
Also what speeds can you get these engines up to in your delicas or pajeros?

Just like any alu head in a diesel, if the temps run too high, there is a possibility of damage.

With that said, the likely hood of that happening is the same a getting struck by lightening three times.

Timing chain is preferable and the 2.8 has more grunt than the 2.5. You can definitely feel it when cruising at 100 km/h and then hitting the gas to pass someone. On the 2.5, nothing really happens. You have to 'roll' up to high speeds, whereas the 2.8, you actually get some good power.

Manual transmissions are great, but the auto's are better both for maintenance and for cruising on the highway.

Manual trans, you will be at 3,200 RPM @ 100 km/h with 31" tires. Auto trans, you will be at 2,450 RPM @ 100 km/h with 31" tires.

Big difference both on wear & tear and MPG. The auto wins on the highway. Hands down.

has anyone on here cracked a head on the 2.8l
i would love to buy a manual lwb pajero 2.8L but thats extremely rare.
I will probably end up settling for an auto.
my dads got a bj70 landcruiser and you have to do the slingshot approach if you want to pass someone.
any other thinks to look out for?
