Hi Delica Drivers,

I have a general question / comment and maybe one of you has a tip... or you can tell me that this is perfectly normal:

My front doors rattle - or to be more precise.... it is the windows inside the doors that rattle....

When the windows are closed (i.e. all the way up) it's actually not that bad... but when they are open anywhere from just a bit to all the way down, they appear to somewhat loosely rattle in their mounting- or sliding rails.

Especially when shutting the door with the windows down the door sounds like there is a lot of loose stuff... (it just sounds like cheap plastic stuff...)

The window closing mechanism, the door locks, the hinges everything is fine... it has got to be the windows.

Is there a way to tighten them up in a way so that there is less of a rattle?

I have yet to see one Delica with tight window brackets (window part way rolled down)

I have a similar situation in my strada.

window rattles and will annoy to no end this summer camping when it is anywhere from slightly open to almost completely open.

does not rattle when fully closed or fully open.

I haven't come up with a good solution yet but am thinking of the following.

Maybe getting a thicker seal in the window opening. this would grab the window better, instead of having a gap between the outer seal/window/inner seal whenever the window is rolled down. I could also go with putting a shimming material behind the seal instead of buying a new seal right off the bat. See if the idea has a chance in working.

Try replacing the "run-channel" I got one from Max Overdrive and I'm sure Rocky Mtn. Imports would be able to get them too

whats the channel made of? would it be possible to take it out and bend it a tad to make it tight again?

It's the soft, fuzzy / rubber channel that the window runs in and slots into when the window is shut - rebending or rehaping isn't an option. It goes down into the door only for about 6 inches or so with the rest fully visible tucked into the window frame. Still, the new one I got helped with the rattle, but didn't help with the air whistle I was hoping to cure. Ahh well, I suppose I'd need to replace the door rubber for that...

I'm not sure if you could shim the felt strip from behind.

My first thought was pipe cleaners slipped in between the glass and the felt as they should hold the glass enough without binding. The trick would be fastening them.

I need to make a run to Fabricland for some material for my rear cards. I'll check to see what they have in the way of piping and give it a try

I need to open the door up and take a look, but I have other projects that need attending to first.

Konadog, you mentioned new guide channels you got from Max Overdrive....

Did this actually work / relieve the rattle?

The window is tighter when partially open, though it does still rattles a bit - it's a deli thing... Also, rather than a rattle, I was primarily chasing down an air whistle and as the run-channel in that window had an ancient fold (the window had pinched and distorted a little bit of it and it stayed that way) I assumed it was the source of the whistle - wrong. The rubber door seal is leaking air - also a fairly common deli-issue. So yeah, the new window channel helped and was worth doing, but didn't totally stop all window rattle

I stumbled over this while searching for some channel. It explains fairly well how to re-align a window(even though it doensn't pertain to our vehicle). The diagrams alone help us understand what we might be able to do to help help out with our rattle though.

I also don't recall the the channel going down that deep into the window. Konadogs remarks about the 6 inches confirms that but my strada may be different so i'll be checking out this route again when I get some sun to work in.

Also, If we don't have channels going down that deep, would making some solve any rattle problems? of course with new guide channel material.

If our windows are like that the rattle could hopefully be minimized by pinching the metal channel that the rubber channel is in, this is what I was hoping to try.

that could be a possible solution for inside the door. just be careful to not overpinch...

the window frame I think we have 2 solutions so far. replace the felt channel or shim it.

from konadogs remarks about the rattle not being completely removed from just replacement, maybe a combination would give the best results?

Konadog, did you replace the entire perimeter of the window channel?

my main issue isn't rattling so much as the windows are loose so I can't close them after I get over certain speeds, if the sunroof is popped about 70-80 close it's like 60 or less.

sounds like you're missing your window clips... cheap part, easilly available and a 5 minute or less install with no tools required...
