Anyone found a solution for a towing hitch without fabricating one? Right now I have one bolted to my rear bumper with U-bolts, but it is a nasty temporary solution.

Go to a hitch shop and get one custom made. If that shop says they can't do it, go to the next one until somebody does. There are a few good posts here and on the UK forum on hitches with pictures and drawings. It may be worth printing a few off and taking with you to appease nervous hitch guys.

just got my work van back from mid isle hitch in nanaimo. the job was 416 including taxes, wiring harness, ball hitch and installation. dave had to take off the spare wheel but the job looks fantastic. it is a 2 inch receiver and looks mighty strong. underneath the double chrome rear bumper of the chamonix you can hardly see it. i would recommend this place. he also picked up my van for me from the autobody and did the work in a day to save me an extra trip over to nanaimo just to deliver the van.

it is defintiely not a mac thing.

make sure you copy the right type of link from photobucket or imageshack.

well i consider myself pretty computer savy but when i try to update my avatar thingy i get an error message. i have an avatar pic on the uk website so i don't know what is going wrong. i have sent them to kuan as he sent me a pm and i passed along the photos. he will post them for me.
hope they are clear enough, they installed the wiring inside the panel where the jack is located and wire is long enough to attach to the trailer from there. i assume the wiring will last longer clean and dry inside the van instead of hanging underneath it.

looks really great, definitely puts a damper on veggie tank placement. Good to know I won't have to worry about hauling anything haha.

after looking at the hitch set up again i'm sure you could fabricate a second or in fact a third tank in some cases to put in between the hitch supports. i assume you were going to remove the spare wheel anyway and the trailer hitch takes up very little room under neath and in fact would be a perfect support structure for the tank. i don't know if that is in fact legal but after all it is just wvo and not something volatile. i'm sure you could add some rubber mounting to the set up as well. after some thought i might do that to both delicas if that works.

So where do you put the spare tire then? Roof basket?

on the work van we won't worry about the spare and on the family van yes the roof basket would be used on long journeys. the work van never leaves the island really and when we head off to nanaimo we would throw it in the back just in case. not the perfect scenario but one i can live with.

Here are some pictures of my Hitch.

I wanted every thing to look as stock as possible and decided that a class II receiver (1 1/4) was all I was ever going to need.

I reinforced the original mounting location and mounts. Then rebuilt the bar with a heavy wall tube instead of the original and added (with reinforcement) the receiver.

I had lost one of my rubber end pieces so I decided to get a little creative with the end caps. They are CNCed aluminum which act as tie downs for when my boat is on the roof.

My spare still fits with this hitch but it had to go to the roof anyways to make room for the deep fryer! (veggie oil tank).
