Ha....there's a funny guy!
If I had it I wouldn't be asking!!
I seem to have little luck when not doing it myself.....the one time I went to a full serve gas station, they put in gas....the one time I get the oil changed at a drive thru place my drain bolt dissapears 3 days later. Yes, lucku for me I saw the light come on and stopped right away....not so lucky for anyone behind me.....
I have a replacement in there now, but I'm pretty sure it's not the right size. Threads in easy for a few turns then gets really tight....it has a little drip, but not too bad as a short term fix.

Like the rest of bolts and nuts on these it's probably metric and the one you have now could not be... Just get a used one from Glen at CCauto or Mardy in Richmond.
You don't show where you're from so not sure who's best to help you...

A 17mm head is either an M10 (DIN) or an M12 (JIS).
In view of the origin of our Delicas, it's almost certainly an M12. Is your replacement-that-doesn't-quite-fit a 1/2" bolt?

Ouch! Did they put in a lot before you noticed? What did you do?

I knew a VW bus guy who let a gas jockey check and fill his oil once

The kid forgot to replace the motor's oil cap. Up to the top of the Malahat to a fried, oil covered motor...
