I like my 5-speed Delica

It's been a while since I've been in an automatic Delica.
After jumping in one again, I have a new appreciation for the 5-speed's.
The auto feels like a dog compared to the manual for acceleration from start up to 100 km/hr.
The auto vs. manual maintenance/how many break down really comes down to keeping the fluids changed at the right intervals and luck.
I like it.

I like dogs... Seriously, l like the sloooow acceleration of my bus - it's part of the charm. I do appreiciate why you prefer the manual though - I bet you're a cat guy

I grew up on acreage with outside dogs and love dogs.
Don't and never will have a cat.
Unless I live on a farm and a true outdoor cat shows up to hunt mice.

I read on here that several people had issues with the 5 speed freezing up in the winter!
Is this an issue or not with the 5 speed?
Also I will be towing a 1200lb Boler. Would that be an issue with the 5 speed compared to an auto?
I grew up on a farm and had an awesome outdoor cat. She even killed a muskrat twice her size, she lived till a ripe old age of 19 till a movie crew backed over her

I think it's the other way around.

Towing capacity is the same. You may gain a bit more pulling power with the 5speed over the auto depending on how you shift with your left arm.

I have always prefered standard no matter what I have driven. In my van I am willing to accept perhaps a slower top speed for the joy of shifting. Its great in the snow for control, goes up the slick hill and pops out of the mud with the feather clutch dump.
yes I like the 5 spd

Hey,
I have not really spent quality time with an auto (yet).
I have just mostly had standards, more control of my limited power.
I do certainly wish there was a 6th gear for Highway, a lift and bigger tires should substitute for that.
Sure is a peppy little tranny for the city though!
I have a dog and a cat so I guess that means I should look at picking up an Auto Deli too! (I don't have a hope in Hell of getting that reasoning past my girlfriend but I will give it a shot!)
Right on!

How was the transition from changing gears with your right to you left hand? Also what is a Deli like starting on hills.

When DocSavage was in town, I got a chance to test out his 5 speed gaspot. Holy, what a differnce in power, but sure felt a little weird with all the action being on the left side ( shifting & clutch) I figure it would take the same amount of time to get use to as it was from LHD going to RHD. Barring trying out a 5-speed to see what switching hands does , 5 minutes of quiet time with a Penthouse may give you an idea

Transition took more time than the LHD to RHD aspect.
Clutch/Gas/Brake pedals are the same layout LHD & RHD.
Stick in the middle is a little odd. Not because it's on the left side (middle) but because in the Delica specifically, the shifter is in a really weird location.
It doesn't feel natural at first. Takes a while to get used to.
By comparison, a drove a Skyline and right off the bat, shifting on the left felt very comfortable.
Starting on hills is like most standards.
It's not like the Subaru's that have a hill-holding system (that I loved on mine)

Shifting really shouldn't be a problem, when I was with my x often we would shift for each other from the passenger seat without talking just watching what the driver/road is doing - when you see the drivers foot move to the clutch you shift. Silly things you do for entertainment when driving. While shifting the only thing you have to think about is not putting sideways pressure on the stick as you will tend to pull the gear too far and jump two gears, you already know where the gear locations are.
