Ready to buy.,but....

I found a van, and it's in my price range. The thing is it's a private sale, and I'm not as mechanically inclined as I would like to be. The van is in Burnaby and I am downtown vancouver.
Can anyone recommend a good mechanic/shop in my area to take it to for a once over before I buy?
In the meantime, I've been and will continue reading up on what to look for.
Thanks,
james

found what i was looking for on the delica wiki...
I think Mardy would be the best/closest.
Still would appreciate anyone in the area willing to come have a look-see! probably going to try and arrange a test drive tomorrow.
**RJD in North Van would be the closest.

We're in Burnaby if you want to compare ours. Send us your phone number by PM Private Message (click on New Messages by login on the above banner).
Beware private sales, beware dealers not recommended in the postings by members, save a thousand now by buying unknown but spend 5 thousand later in fixups.
Recommend Mardy for sales / support.
Or CVI (repair garage) will do a thorough inspection
Christine.

This is what I worry about. I do think it's a good sign that the guy has no problem with taking it somewhere to have it checked out though. But on the other hand, is he going to say no? hmm....

Holy Crap Feel the love eh!
If you check one on the island I can maybee spin you around.
Glen and the gang at CCautos would be the place I would know to trust
on this rock. You would want to call ahead to book.
Right on!

What would bringing it into a shop for a once over run a guy?

still expensive to do in the shop, its better to the dealer who do all this work for you, warrantty & other thing.
but its up to the buyer where he or she is comfortable dealing with. its just time consuming to do from one end to another.
in the end its up to the buyer choice.
cheers;

To do a once over pre-purchase inspection should cost no more than $50. It takes less than one hour to pull the wheels and check it over thoroughly. Ask prior and make sure you take it to `licensed`mechanics to get it checked out. That way you insure to get a `qualified` opinion of the vehicle that can pay off in savings in the future.

The guy I had check mine out charged me $200.00, but he also had the engine somewhat apart to inspect it as well.

My pre-purchase inspection cost me $80 at RJD Services in North Van (Nathan) for about one hour + to put it up on the hoist, pull the wheels and give if a good once-over.
Found leaking valve cover gasket, leaking injection pump, wheel lock light problem and rear sway bar links needed replacing. Also recommended replacing timing belt, balancing belt, water pump and seals.
Dealer then agreed to have all of this done except for sway bar links before I purchased.
Well worth the $80.

Beware private sales,
How about Josh who is not a stranger to the community selling his bus? If I needed another Delica I would buy it from him.

Phunka,
I agree with Profister, you should look at Josh's wonderful silver van for sale.
When I say "beware private sales" I mean those people who are NOT regular contributors to this forum. One can read all the posts from Josh, so you know he has done all the maintenance.
Cheers, Christine.
