I was wanting to take off my rear view mirror without breaking anything, specifically the plastic cover, anyone know of the proper handling of this removal?

Yup, did it recently because my mirror turned floppy, so I replaced it with aftermarket glue-on-windshield type.

The mirror mount (for my 1992 anyway) is simply clipped in. So, grab the bar that comes from ceiling to mirror, and pull down and maybe also back towards you. I wouldn't recommend jerking though. It takes quite a bit of force, and it will pop out of its holder. The arm is actually metal, as is the base. The plastic cover is screwed onto the metal. So the plastic will not break, and I would really hope the metal wont either.

Mine is a 1992 also - but the mirror arm was held in by 3 Philips screws. I forced the mirror off first (damaging it anyway - no going back at that point).
The plastic cover can be pried off first - exposing the screws. The cover did not come off easily though - took quite a bit of work but finally got it off - but work it from the left & right sides with a hefty flat screwdriver. This allowed access to the screws and ultimate removal of the mirror arm itself. Princess Auto had the mirror glue and a very nice (and larger than stock) mirror selection. Canadian Tire has some mirrors as well, but they were more pricey.
Highly recommended repair - the stock wiggly mirror was driving me crazy!!!!!

Hmm, wonder if the difference is between Exceed and Super Exceed? Oh, and I looked again, my plastic just clips onto the metal, but has no effect on removal. But prying it off would let any Delica owner see which version their mirror mount is.

Guess now everyone has 2 ways of removing. I agree about having a fully working mirror is nice; well worth the money. I went to Auto Value cause they had better selection than Crappy Tire and Princess Auto is too far away for convenience.

My mirror has the wiggles too, 92 exceed. planning on tackling it this weekend, after my day at CVI!!

As the general consensus appears to be that I do not know what I'm talking about, and cause more harm than good, I am removing this post so that others are not tricked in to following my ill-advised instructions.

Talking with TardisDeli at CVI she said that after looking at several mirrors she had concluded that mirrors have a convex in them to help with visibility based on what side of the mirror the driver is on (LHD vs. RHD). Has anyone ran into this problem? I would like to order a huge rear view as the stock one is simply far too small for how much visibility the rear of the van potentially has.

I wonder if some aftermarket towing mirror may be the easiest way to address the problem. Something like this perhaps:

When I was looking for a replacement, the stores had 8" wide and 12" wide mirrors. The stock Deli one is about 8". I considered the 12" to get more visibility, but then it would interfere with the sunvisors, so I stuck to the 8". Nine inch or even 10" would have worked, but I didn't find any.

As for convex, I've noticed that a lot of GM vehicles' rearview mirrors are convex left-right, but flat up-down. So the image in the mirror isn't really deceptive in distance (unlike the usual right-hand convex), but vehicles in the mirror look narrower than they are. Was really weird and disconcerting until I got used to it.

The Deli's outside mirrors are convex in both directions, and the mirrors are identical (same part number). So they don't have a left and right. Regular North American vehicles' outside mirrors are planar (aka flat) on the left (driver's) side, and convex on the passenger (right) side, with the little notice of "objects are closer than they appear".

Actually the cause of my RVM's wigglitis was caused by one of those 'clip-on' extra wide mirrors.

It was just a cheap one ($12?) but I was curious, and am considering a permanent one of similiar dimensions. I like it. It really is an improvement over the stock one, but I found that it made vehicles appear much further away than they actually were, kind of bothersome. But I imagine a higher quality mirror wouldn't do that.
