Hmmm... Towhees are usually very shy birds that tend to stick close to cover. I have seen other birds peck at rearviews... mostly sparrows, sometimes chickadees. Also surprised the robin was taking a wailing... they usually dish it out to the jays (which are bigger) when their nest gets raided.

Wouldn't exactly call it normal... fun to watch tho... :-D

Most species of birds are not self-aware and so don't know/understand that the 'other' bird in the mirror is them.

And now that your van's new friend is crapping all over it, yeah, well, you'll have to find some way of dealing with that... and find that bucket of soapy water. :-(

well... speaking of birds being pests. my wonderful dog ruby has recently taken the starling matter into her own hands.

Came home one day last week to find one basically chewed to death. it was still recognizable in the average bird shape, but there were parts that weren't feathered exposed, for sure.

The next day she is discovered with 2 in the yard. They eat her food, crap in her dish and crap on her house. To be honest, they deserve it, and as much as I love animals, i really have no desire to protect the birds from my dog, but i am a little worried about protecting my dog from the birds... is she in a lot of danger getting these dirty things in her mouth or is it fairly rare to have a problem come from a dog hunting. Obviously she has developed at least a knack for hunting if not a desire for the bird itself, which may be unhealthy...

Ruby rides in my van so it is related...

At least its nice to have the birds out and about this time of year....

I used to have this issue at home, when the wrens were in mating season on my old '76 "ute"... used to just slip bags over the wing mirrors, but there was only two on the ute, compared to the several dozen you get on a deli!

Little buggers... used to flap sh#t everywhere... But after a while they'd soon forget about the mirrors and go bother someone else :)
