Meager Creek hotsprings - Duffy Lake - kayaking & back

Myself & Maryna took Turtle for a weekend getaway. City was packed and I don't like being in the city period.

Left sat morning and headed up towards Meager Creek hotsprings.

After Pemberton, we hit the Lillooet FSR. Aired down to 15 psi and floated over the potholes like they were pebbles. I love these tires. They may suck for wear in future but they are great for absorbing bumps.

Luckily, most people still think the bridge is washed out, so there was only a few people there when we arrived. Had a few pools beside the creek to choose from. Nice.

Spent a few hours there and then headed back towards Pemberton.

Took Duffy Lake rd up to Duffy Lake and hit blowback creek. Just about 2 km past it on the river side, there is a partially hidden dirt road. Literally 30 feet from the highway, we found this little gem. Roaring river = no highway sounds. Not many mosquitoes. Cool air. Was great.

While nursing some broken ribs from a nice midnight quad ride, I wasn't able to do much but drive and relax. Maryna did most of the packing, camping,etc... although I did exert myself that night chopping up a log with a child's size hatchet which ended up snapping at the base. At least we had a fire.

The week before I picked up a 4" queen foam topper mattress from Walmart. 2.5" of normal foam + 1.5" of memory foam and cut it to size for the poptop. I swear we slept better than our bed at home. I'm going to pick one up to put on our mattress at home as well. Best $110 bucks I've spent on sleeping gear home/away. For anyone looking to sleep better without shelling out a ton of cash. Look for Spa Sensations 4" Memory Foam mattress topper. Consumer reports rated it up there with the $1,500+ foamies.

Sunday morning, we had headed back towards Pemberton exploring some side roads.

At Lillooet lake, there are some creeks that flow down into it at the base of Duffy Lake road. We parked there, pumped up the inflatable 2ppl kayak, loaded munchies and started paddling up the creek. Current wasn't strong enough to keep us stationary so we forged on ahead. Maryna moreso than me although I made paddling strokes while eating. Close to one of the potatoe farms, we stopped and Maryna took a natural dip in the water. We turned around and strapped the paddles to the sides and just drifted back the way we came. Some good scenery and tons of birds.

After a few hours, we headed back to Whistler. Stopped in the Irish pub, had some good food. Finished it off with hot apple crumble and a pint of Strongbow cider.

Spent the evening with the family and then headed back.

We're going to do this more often. Stuck in the city too long made me realize that we don't have to drive hours and hours to find places like these. They're right in our backyard on the other side of the north shore mountains most places less than 1-2 hrs away. :M

Lost the 40D charger so these are cell phone pics. :-D

I must say, I am so jealous of the turtle camper everytime i see it... that poptop is delectable. And it looks even better up and in the woods. Looks like you had a good weekend.

It's an advanced elements 2 person kayak.

They are great and simple to pack away/store.

http://www.advancedelements.com/lagoon.html

The lagoon 2 person is their latest model but I bought last years (dragonfly x2) at 1/2 the price online.

Looks like they sold out but you can get them here :

http://www.airkayaks.com/ae1033.html

Make sure if you get one of the dragonfly's that it's the x2 model (they made improvements).

That's where I got mine with paddles/hand pump.

They are really great for someone who is tight for space and storage.

Inflates/deflates by hand in a few mins.
