Insurance rates

I have read the ICBC post about coverage once a delica is involved in an accident or has damage. Just writing that makes me  thinking of a beautiful delica wrecked.
My question is, are rates higher for the right hand drive? Reading posts at IVOAC it seems that some people talk about ICBC's involvement in safety myth with TC. Are they raising rates to discourage people from owning?
I have full road star discount. Can I expect to have similiar rates to my other early 90's vehicles I have owned?
Any info would be appreciated. Mind you, it doesn't really matter at this point since mine is being loaded next week. 30 more sleeps :D

your insurance rates "should" be on the appraised value of the unit...
RHD or LHD shoudl not be the issue... now that being said, a RHD "can" be more costly to repair IF you do not know where to source parts.

the insurance companies SHOULD be doing their homework but remember ICBC is a government insurance company... and we know how much governments like to do their homework (just look at the accident stats written by government employees)

I just renewed my insurance with ICBC yesterday, and with 2 million liability, pleasure use on Van Isle with collision and theft, and with a 40% discount I'm paying $890 a year. Pretty much exactly what I was paying for my old 86 Toyota pickup, so I don't think they're raising the rates...yet.

now I'm not in BC so I don't have to deal with ICBC, and I don't have collision on the vehicle, only liability and theft/fire/vandalism, however my rates are 100% identical to what they were on my North American spec 1983 mercedes 300SD that I had previously.

Just a tidbit of info I found out from a friend at a soccer game tonight. Check out coverage through BCAA. My friend said he saved $280 just by switching to BCAA, and that is including his $85 sign up fee with BCAA. You would still need basic coverage with ICBC, but he said even the private insurance can't touch BCAA's. I know I will be looking at BCAA when my insurance expires. On top of the savings you would also get the roadside coverage, hotel discounts, and all the other perks with BCAA.

If there is anybody out there already on BCAA, they might be able to add some info. Food for thought anyway, I know I am very interested.

While I'm not with BCAA, I am an AMA member (Alberta's equivalent) and their roadside assistance has paid for itself many times over in my previous vehicle... and I did have them tow the Delica once too...
However I would never consider using them for insurance as they have always quoted me DOUBLE the rate I currently pay!
