I was sure I just read a rescent post that the seat belts that come with these vehicle are not self ratcheting. Does this mean on impact they don't tighten up or does it mean if you relax them, they do not self tighten?

Thanks

:? Huh? Not sure what you mean, but the belts in my 92 retract and grab like any other car I've been in...

the belts don't do the locking out thing that modern ones do if you pull them all the way out, it's used for kids car seats.

there are 3 main types of latching mechanisms on seatbelts:
- there are those that lock based on a pendulum (like the delica), these move freely until you decelerate (or accelerate) hard, then they lock.
- there are those that lock based on how fast you try to pull the seatbelt out, these move freely as long as you don't try to pull them too fast
- there are those that pull out as far as you want, but once retracting will not pull outward again unless you retract them all the way, these are extremely annoying to most people, however they are the best option when securing a child seat to a vehicle.

Any vehicle, regardless of age, can have any of these, or sometimes a combination of them.
