Aftermarket MTX amp blowing fuses and need answers!

Post by patty »

so i found this aftermarket little set up on craigslist the other day. the set came with a 10 inch sub woofer in a truck sub box with an MTX amplifier. i have now bought the proper wiring and fuse set up for this amp and sub set up and from what i can tell have installed it correctly. the problem is that when i put in 20A fuses in the back of the amp (ignition off, keys out of vehicle) they blow out instantly. now iv checked my ground and power supply and its deffs not them. this leeds me to the conclusion that crowbar circuit inside the amp is wrecked and is blowin fuses to protect its self. iv been on a couple of forums and they talk about a devise to stop this, but never give the real name of it. so i got some questions:
1) anybody know what this devise is called and how much it goes for?
2) anyone have any other ideas have whats going on?
3) any one got a cheap amp they wonna get rid of (like $40 cheap)

Once a crowbar circuit has tripped, changing the fuses won't reset it. You have to remove source power (disconnect from battery). The fuses are probably for the output side of the amp.

Hi Pat, Also, use good quality fuses, I had problems with Princess Auto fuses (with the built in little lights to show when blown). They blew after a few minutes of use, turned out not to be the headlight fault AFTER I had made Jay take it ALL apart and rewire it. Sadly, normally I love Princess Stuff.

Hope you're enjoying your "New" Deli, now that you have given it a heart transplant with the new engine etc. Cheers, Christine.

I think that a 20 Amp fuse may be too small, what size is your Amp? I would call a dealer and mention the name of your Amp and ask what size is appropriate. I'll have a look at mine and see what size it is when I get home. My Sub isn't working either, methinks that my Amp is toast but it may be a poor ground.

Oiy, I reread your post and see that it's the Amp fuse blowing and not your inline power fuse. I might drop by a shop and have someone look at your setup or contact the person that you bought it from and have them look at it. Double check that the power is going to the right connection.

Pat , Recommend

Performance Car Stereo (604) 986-1171
150 Pemberton Ave North Vancouver, BC , V7P2R5

They like Delica, I was referred by Paul Falco. They also do high performance stereo in street racers. Good prices, quick service, clean shop, very very decent people.

Christine.

they installed my system about a year ago. really nice guys but charged WAY to much for a simple speaker install. though i didnt know what i know now about that kinda thing so i guess it worked out. right now im looking more into a circuit board fixer guy. if i take it into a car audio place they will just say junk it and ill give you a deal on this one. thanks for the input though!
