Engine oil
Hi everyone,
I have searched here and been through a bunch of threads on engine oil. Need to do a change before a long road trip. The manual says it takes 10W40. Well I discovered today that this is impossible to find in Vernon. I had one guy recommend using Rotella 10W30. I see a lot of you using 15W40.
Is there any concensus on this? Is there much difference between the 10W40 and 15W40?
The threads I read were from back in 2007. I didn't see anything newer. Has anything changed in what everyone finds works best in these?
I got the Napa 1067 filter which I thought would be harder to come by, but I am confused about the oil.
Thanks,
Steve

Re: Engine oil
I started to use Esso Synthetic XD-3 Extra 0W-40 after my neighbour that owns a service station recommended it, and then some of the mechanics at work agreed. I haven't been disapointed and now use it in all my vehicles. I think some others in the forum also said they used it when the topic came up once before.

Re: Engine oil
you will find 10W40 at a motorcycle shop for sure!!! 95% of motorcycle use 10W40. But personally, I use 15W40 in summer and 5W40 or 0W40 in winter(easier to start).
my 2 cents!! Pedro

Re: Engine oil
There has been no discussion because nothing has changed. I run 15W40 in Gumdrop all year, though the coldest I've ever needed to start was -10 a couple of times last winter.
The manual will also specify service CD for turbo-diesels, but since modern oil goes up to CJ, this isn't an issue. Oil takes a sh*t-kicking in turbo diesels, and you have to be religious about oil changes and oil quality.

Steve
I just changed my oil 3 days ago using Rotella 15/40. It was $3 more than the previous shell 15/40 for 4 litres but still cheap at $14.50, and lubrofiner lfp805 oil filter at $21.38. It actually does seem to run a bit smoother than the previous oils. I'll only know if it's better when I change oil next time.

Re: Engine oil
Where did you get the Lubrofiner filter? Napa wants $38.95 for their filter

Re: Engine oil
Just a reminder that you can get oil filters from the truck shops for cheaper.
Got 6 Baldwin's for 17$ each and they are great filters.

Hey Steve,
I get my Chevron Delo 400LE 15W40 from Inland Kenworth on Middleton mountain in Vernon. Hope that helps. For filters, I have been grabbing a few at a time from Mardy whenever I'm at the coast, so I haven't looked for any locally or anything.
Which Vernon Delica are you?
