I just drove a 2 door Pajero with 2.8 intercooled td.
Wow for pickup and all that jazz... makes me wonder
if my 2.4 td is actually working properly.
Is my turbo actually doing anything....
How much heavier is my Delica?
HP?
I do realize that they are smaller and lighter....
but wow for giddieupandgo...

The Delica is at least 500kg heavier.
And according to
this page describing the 4M4 engine, it will have nearly TWICE the hp!
So it'll have some very definite GETUPANDGONE compared to your bus. Profister, you reading this post?

The 2.8 intercooled td feels like a gas engine. Going up through port alberni my l300 barely broke 65-70 if I was hauling around the corner. 1/2 way up I would be at 55ish watching my egt temps. With the l400 2.8 I was doing 100 and accelerating with juice and temps to spare. Huge difference in power both acceleration and holding power.

It was like a ricer car off some movie.
Ah well

Smaller the turbo, the poorer the efficiency. It'd be nice to fit a holset hx35 to a 4d56t and see what it'd do for EGT's.

Sounds as though the paj you were driving was modded, the boost gauge is of course an indicator, but, the main thing is you heard the pop-off valve bleeding pressure. With stock set up you would most likely never hear that.
LOL, I think you'ld need a twin setup or nitrous to get an hx35 to even begin to spool with our little engines.

Well car shopping on this side of the pond test drove a couple of Pajaro 2.8 and yes they are peppier then a Delica; our Nissan 3 L has even more pull and feels like a V6 compared to the Delica. Intercooler add ons are popular here, and custom fabricated cost all up about $400 to $1000 including a boost guage.
A friend had an intercooler with stainless pipe put on his 2.5 diesel Toyota and the turbo boost upped; the truck feels why peppy than before – all for about $600 - $650 Cdn for everything. We are talking about nice pick up when goosing it at 120kmh. I’d guess Mephisto is correct, up the boost and you feel it on any diesel. One shop nearby has a 3 liter diesel van that can rip donuts for hours, stock engine with upgraded turbo and intercooler.
