The second half of our vacation this year started with the meet in CC Autos in Coombs on August 15th and we decided to stay on the Island for the whole week. In a week we went to Port Hardy, Holberg, San Josef Bay, Woss, Port McNeil, Telegraf Cove, Sayward, Campbell River and went down on the highway 19A to Nanaimo. We also stayed on Buttle Lake campgroung in Strathcona PP for a few days to relax. The weather was excellent and we had really great time; we wish it would last longer. Here are some pictures. The was no ban on campfires on a campground in Port Hardy and it was really nice; first night we bbq'ed fresh lamb meat and for the second night we had fresh mussels harvested on the rocks in San Joseph Bay. Yum-yum.

I was up doing the north coast trail then, looks like you had a good time as well. I was told that there was red tide up there, you didn't get sick?? If not I wouldn't doubt it was just the water taxi guy telling tales to keep people from harvesting the mussels. Wonder how fresh that squid was, lol, could have had calamari as well.

the thing about red tide is in remote areas, they don't no where it is and isn't. and they don't have the people resources to test everywhere so they just say don t eat it.

Thanks for posting!!! Is that a building on the south end of the beach at San Joe?

San Josf, now there is one beach I miss - was it busy well you were there? I have so many great memories of camping there in the summers during the 80's; bring up my friends from Vancouver and maybe seeing one or two other people over the week spent between sleeping on the beach after staying up all night around the camp fire and playing in the surf, and speed hiking the cape trails.
