Is this normal wear?

I replaced the stock front shock absorbers about three years (60 K) ago. Lately I noticed a worsening 'clunk' on the passenger side ecspecially when that that side was unloaded. I have been chasing that clunk without success. Wheel bearings, sway bar bushings, torsion bars, steering rack etc. etc. all check. I neglected on checking the bushings on the shocks becasue they were relatively new! Well, here's the photo of the lower bushings.

There's my 'clunk'. The shocks were fine, but that bushing certainly did not stand up. I was told that I could not just replace the bushing and therefore replaced both front shocks (different brand!).

No, that's not normal. That's excessive. Shocks should last about 80000 km. Usually there is something wrong either with the installation or with the mountings for a shock to wear out like that.

there has been some speculation and talk about Pro Comp rubber bushings not holding up and that the upgrade to poly bushings is the key.
