Hi All,
being in ontario it get cold at times :) (well all the time :) ) When I got my PJ i did not change the coolant. Should I change it? it still looks clean but not sure if it will be ok for below 0 temps. I am also thinking of switching my oil to something lighter. I have been using 15w40 all the time
Thanks !

Re: Prepare before Winter
On the west coast people use 15/40 year round... elsewhere it may be better to lighten it a bit in the winter, a 5/40 may be a good option (though if you're worried about -30 or lower you may want to even consider a 0/40.
Coolant, may or may not need to be changed, however it should be tested to determine it's concentration, a decision on replacing it can be made after you find out the concentration.

Re: Prepare before Winter
I strongly recomend replaceing the coolant on these vehicles as it could be the original coolant and it could now be causeing more harm than good.Get it checked for strenght at the very least as you do not want it to freeze up and cause damage to anything with those harsh winters you get over there!
You can always go to a synthetic oil for winter to help with cold starts and also a block heater.
I know some people run 5W40 Shell Rotella synthetic oil and have noticed a big improvement.
Hope this helps

Re: Prepare before Winter
Thanks for the replies...
I got 3k to go before my next oil change.. i think i will go for lighter viscosity.. as for the coolant.. its going to warm up a bit over the week end and I might aswell change it.
BTW at around 0 - 5 degrees i notice misfiring in the morning for about 30 sec or less then it will be ok. I also notice the idle is more on the lower side. Where can i adjust the idle when its cold?
thanks!
