Making it into a 'weekender' van

Hi all. My first post here... I have been looking at the Delica for awhile now and I really like the idea of a diesel 4x4. It sure looks great for a 15 year old van. Going to test drive one tonight actually.

My question is this. Has anyone made a 'weekender' van out of the Delica, similar in style to the VW Westfalia? I've done RV customization for awhile and I was thinking that a Delica with the amenities of a bed, plus a furnace would take care of 90% of my camping needs and still be practical for day to day use in the city. Add an tiny icebox (or just a 12v cooler), a one burner stove and a Porta Potti I think it would be great vehicle for me and the little lady to head out of town on the weekends.

Anyone know of a pop up top that could be fitted to this van, like the Westfalia has?

I've also been researching WVO conversion for quite some time now. I see several here have done it, but with a two tank system I wonder if it would be impossible to get all those goodies plus a second tank into this little van?

And I'm curious what owners are getting for fuel consumption? (I know the gov. likes to post in ltrs/100km but tell me in plain ol' mpg, eh? Does ltrs/100 km make sense to ANYONE?. lol)

as far as the weekender conversion goes, check out the uk site as i have seen a few posts about it there. it can be done. there are links to japanese sites where it has been done as well. you might want to look into getting a low roof model for doing the pop top. good luck

How about a roof top tent instead of a hard pop top, like;

ARB makes em too.

A buddy started by making one for his VW Syncro and now makes these out of Nanaimo - http://www.cartopretreats.com/index.htm
