ORIGINAL POST:
Hello All Campers, or just Day Trippers ... Pajero's, Delica's, even Toyota's, all welcome, 4x4 preferred but hardy 2 wheel drives OK.
Everyone must come camping this weekend, so start packing now.
Various Reasons:
It is not snowing yet,
The campfire ban is over so we can roast ourselves by the campfire,
We havent been camping in ages,
And...Delicat Returns this weekend so we will greet him after his many months away from BC.
Dates: Meet Saturday Day to socialize and camp on Saturday night, returning Sunday. Oct 24+25 2009. Suitable for those only wanting Saturday long day trip.
Convoy: departs IKEA Coquitlam at 9:05am.
Diesel fuel stop in Chilliwack at the Shell at exit 116, Lickman Road, just north of the freeway, pay in cash for super-duper discount, usually 10 cents cheaper than Vanouver, TIME approx 10:15
IKEA MeetUp: giving you time to run in and get your breakfast for $1.00 to eat on the road (scrambled eggs, hash browns, sausages on a paper plate for $1, 2 orders will fill you up. Then stop at the IKEA bistro for cinnamon buns and coffee, and also buy some frozen IKEA salmon and potato for dinner, and miraculously your cooking is done ... maybe buy a spare breakfast to keep for sunday morning camping, hmmm.
Location: Hope-ish area, will be a low-cost camp such as Forestry site with limited facilites, so bring your own toilet paper and shovel. Possibly near the Coqhihalla or towards Princeton. Will decide exact location by Wednesday night, I have a couple sites in mind, any other ideas welcome.
RAIN or SHINE, We are a Go! We will big tarps to cover the communal area. Bring 2 milk crates of firewood per person for the communal fire, we bring hand saws to cut up wood, so go hunt local construction sites or old tree branches left from last years storms.
4x4 off-roading: those who want to get some rough stuff can join Delicat who has been in 4x4 withdrawal, while those like me who prefer to sit by the fire can, the actual road to the camp site will be flat gravel.
BRING: your own water jugs, your own cooking source (in case the campfire isnt hot enuf to cook on), stories for the campfire, munchies to share with others (Ikea chocolate bars and cookies). Bring lotsa warm clothes, a wool or fleece toque, especially a blanket or those flexible foil windshield sun protectors for the car to wrap around you for sitting by the campfire at night. Chairs for by campfire, and a golf umbrella if it is raining while you sit by the fire, folding table if you need. If you dont have sleeping bags: the mattress from a folding sofa and heaps of bedding duvets under and over you will suffice for one night. If you havent been with the group before: very-well behaved pets OK must be on leash, children welcome, alcohol OK (but no stupid drinking as no first-aid supplies are wasted on alcohol-ers).
Cheers, Christine and Jay...remember munchies are the best way to say thanks for organizing this.
