anyone know a quick way to see if your headlights are correctly aligned?

if they are the factory projector headlights, the answer is they aren't, and cannot be made to be. (ok, I have actually seen instructions to modify them, but being that the government will never accept them as correct if you do this, you really need to just replace them with the right lights)
If you have replaced the factory ones with the European E code lights, or other LHD lights, then it's a matter of pointing them at a wall and adjusting the screws below the lights to a proper pattern. there will be a noticeable upswing in the light on the right side (to illuminate signs on the side of the road) and the rest of the pattern will be quite flat.
Wait a minute... what year?

Hi Visotsky,
I didn't find any info in your profile about the year/model of your car. What year is yours? I have an '89 and my headlights are adjustable. I'm not sure but I think I remember seeing somewhere about this.... well... hang on..... Nope, can't find it.
Well, post your year and model number and if it is an '89 or earlier, I'll try and find something.

do you have projector lamps? or the 4 square lights? if the former, than they are NOT adjustable to meet north american standards (you can adjust them, but not enough to be legal, they MUST be replaced) if the latter, than yes I believe you can adjust them, but I am confused about what you did with the signal wiring, as I don't believe that the vehicles with the 4 square lights have the same type of side signals that the projector headlights to.
Well this might help.

Hi Val,
I looked up pictures of a 1990 Delica and the images I found showed adjustable 4 light systems. Presupposing that you do have the four light system, I haven't found the article I was looking for but this might help:

This guy uses some funny language but I think that if you aim your lights at a wall on a dark night, you will see some reference marks projected onto the wall. I haven't tried it.
Here is another, simpler article.

I'll keep looking and let you know if I find something better.

Green 1, Now that's kind a funny, lesson learned, but without any consequences, as the instruction for the wiring was as you said. and it works.

visotzky: you should post some pics, I'm curious as to how the side-lights look on the earlier headlights...

almost... to link to the page that you listed you would use the
tag, the [url] tag goes before the link ... e, and the tag goes after it. to make it appear properly you would put:
Code: Select all

which should give this:

however, to embed the image in your post you would use the

headlight bulbs

Hi all,
My 92 exceed came from maximum overdrive in richmond where they apparently are very well serviced and inspected before sale, however even though my headlights are to code they have very quickly seemed to burn out. I bought 2 new bulbs and installed, checked the first after changing it which seemed to work fine, after replacing the other headlight bulb it however did not work.
I noticed at this point that the other headlight also wasn't coming on, so I bumped the headlight a few times and presto! it came back on again...
I tried calling but no answer being so close to 5pm on a Saturday.
My thoughts are bad wiring?
Has anyone else gone through this before??
Many thanks in advance, Rob.

I installed the replacement headlights and in the first week thereafter the bulb in the passenger side burnt out... a couple months later (today) the other side burnt out... I suspect it has something to do with the fact that these bulbs were already shipped with the headlight assembly from germany plus who knows what other abuse... if the new ones burn out as quickly I'll start to worry, otherwise I'm just chalking it up to the above causes.

Hello,
I got my replacements from the same place in Richmond, and out of curiosity popped out the bulbs from them and compared them with the original bulbs. Compared with the one on the left that came with my Delica, the one from that replacement on the right had a glob of glue on the top and the filament was leaning over almost on the glass.

No wonder they burnt out, looks like anyone changing out their headlights should check those bulbs too...
