looking for some manual hubs

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

looking for some manual hubs

Post by Firesong »

I get the occasional clunk of the auto's locking/unlocking.
First time it happened was when I was stuck and I heard this
loud thunk..scared me.

Wanted to check and see who has a set they want to part with
before I try to order some.

Are you stopped when you switch to 4H and drive straight forward to lock the hubs? Reverse in straight line in reverse to unlock?

A quiet clunk or thud is pretty normal.

But ...
If you were in 2H with hubs unlocked, and were stuck, put it in 4H and gave it some gas. Yes you will get nasty loud clunk, possibly with gnashing gear noises. That's because some parts are turning and some aren't when the locking happens. The parts really don't like that.

Not sure that you need new hubs, doesn't really sound like it to me.

As opposed to reversing in a straight line in drive, which we all know is NEVER a good thing!! :-D

I was repeating for the second time a quote from the Department of Duplication and Redundancies Department's quotes.

I'm not 100% but I think the hubs for the L400 and the L300 are the compatible and the delica.us site has the superwinch ones listed (says 1 in stock)

I didn't bother to do any exchange calculations, I suspect they pretty much just buy stuff in Japan at retail and make it up. I will need to get my wife to learn Japanese (she speaks 5 languages and is learning a 6th atm, she has a talent for languages, I on the other hand am the opposite) if I get an L400 so she can browse the Japanese sites and get stuff at the proper prices :)

I talked to a local supplier today who said he can get me the Superwinch hubs direct in 3 weeks for $ 225. I'm not really that interested but if anyone wants a pair let me know. I'll make sure he knows everyone has said they are discontinued. If he still says they are available I'll find out how many sets he can get.
Let me know by 9:00AM Thursday.

It seems their is an interest in manual hubs again so I restarted this thread. I have done some more searching on line and it appears that searching for“locking hubs” works best and that searching for a Dodge Raider provides more solutions. The brand most popular seems to be “Rugged Ridge AVM”. They are similar to the Superwinch except they have nylon center dials. One site says they still have Superwinch. Only an order would tell for sure.

I did find something of concern, however, as some sites indicate a 28 spline,6 bolt unit and others a 26 spline, 6 bolt unit. Both have the same catalog number 15001.43. I think I read they are made in Brazil using the Superwinch design.

A few sites are:

Maybe this helps. AVM is a Brazilian company http://www.avm.com.br and they make hubs for Delicas too.

I posted this earlier in another thread:

I do think I found the UK site that has the other manual hubs:
http://www.milneroffroad.com/categories ... D=9412&p=2

They emailed me back :
Thank you for your enquiry. The manual free wheel hubs are £62.00 each and shipping to Canada would be £35.00 - £48.00 depending on your where you are in Canada.

Thanks, Matthew

I am interested...

Just wondering can we get a group buy for some Aisin hubs sent over for a reasonable amount. Anyone in that part of the world right now?

Cheers
David
