Just a question - no cash to pursue this at the moment... but if I can't afford projects at the moment, I at least like to think about them....

Has anybody on this forum (who happens to read this post) any experience with camo-paint jobs? (i.e. ever painted a vehicle in camo, had one painted, thinks about painting theirs, knows how to do it, where to go etc. etc....).

I have seen home-made, spray-can-type, wanna-be camo jobs on the odd pick-up truck but they usually look just awful. I'm thinking about the "proper" army-style camo paint job that you would see on a tank or army truck or so....

Just thinking... I would suppose that prepping for such a paint-job wouldn't be quite as hard as for one, you wouldn't want to achieve a high gloss finish, the paints/colours will be overlapping anyway and shiny parts (chrome, bare metal etc. (would typically be painted as well)...

Does somebody out there own a camouflaged Delica? (and no, I'm not talking Saskatchewan-White

When I served in the military we had to repaint the vehicles yearly (Armoured Personnel Carriers), We used paint brushes and rollers and proper military grade paint (the kind that masks heat signature). The paint was super thick, almost like glue and we followed very vague predetermined guidelines. In saying that, The Krylon camo paint is a very good quality paint. It hides alot of "imperfections" and is quite resistant to abrasion. Check out this site for some pattern ideas, they are actual military pattern.

That hurt my feeling... I have 17 different shades involved in that camouflage job Guess they should have been different colors!
Some of the guys out here use the camoclad vinyl stuff on there mini trucks and it looks good. Hard to stone chip too.

You read my mind, I was thinking a few weeks back that my white Deli would look wicked with the white/winter camo paint pattern - the one that's white with different shades of grey. Will maybe have to do some photoshop'n someday just to see what it might look like.


I have a toyota truck too and this was one of my inspirations that got me thinking how good a Deli would look done up the same.

At least it's a Deli and gives and idea of what they look like camo'd, but unfortunately not a very good job.

Car makers sometimes use dazzle camouflage to disguise the lines of prototypes. Here's an article on the subject http://www.carandsuv.co.nz/articles/cam ... -paparazzi. I remember seeing pictures of a couple of delivery vans that ran around England for several months with nobody noticing that they were mid-engined, because they were test mules for what became the MGF.
