I'm about to buy a Crystal roof 93 Delica, but before I do...


If you have a high-roof delica and have ridden BC Ferries, can you please let me know if they are charging you for an overheight vehicle?

Overheight on BC Ferries is 7', and a stock high roof Delica is under that; add bigger tires, lifts and roof racks and you will be over.

Frequently asked question. High roof, stock tires, stock ride height = underheight vehicle. It's interesting watching the girders go by through the sunroof.

The only exception was Queen of the North, which had a different limit for overheight vehicles. This is no longer an issue; Northern Expedition and Northern Adventure have the same height limits as the southern ships. I've had Gumdrop on Northern Expedition from Prince Rupert to Port Hardy. An amazing trip!

BC Ferries are familiar with Delicas, and seem to be fans.

My next question is about "stock tires" - what size are these?

I ask because I know the tires on the vehicle I'm about to purchase are not stock, so I'd like to know if they are the same size, or if there's a chance they may push the vehicle height over the 7' mark.

how's this, I have stock suspension and 31" tires and I'm about 1/2" under 7'

You won't be running the stock size tires because they are unavailable on this side of the Pacific and rarely have the necessary markings/certifications for use in Canada. The usual replacement is 235/75R15.

When I was waiting for Gumdrop to come across the Pacific I visited Japanoid one Saturday afternoon with a tape measure and measured some Delicas. I was more concerned with access to the parkade in my apartment building.

i got 31"s and a 2" lift. my van is exactly 7' and exactly enough to trigger overheight. dang! i think if i let a little air out the tires, i wont be over...

right I should add that I have the factory spoiler on my van as well.

I'm overheight for everything. With the bigger radio antennae on for events, I reach over 10 feet. I just never go into parking garages -- and that includes my own carport.

last time i crossed at duke point, they charged me for overheight.
however i was one of the first vehicles on board(they put me in a different loading lane).
cant remember what the charge was...

unless you're over 7' you aren't overheight.

my L300 was only 6'8 or so, but with antennas it was just over 9'... the nice toll-booth people would usually charge me under-height, but put me on the lower deck so I wouldn't have to take the antennas off, the rest put me on the upper deck and I had to pull antennas off, not a bad thing except when the ferry is already loading as you pull up!
