Hey,
Coomb Country Auto would probably have one for you.

Check where the tranny meets the front of you powertrain,
If there is a leak there ,the seal inside is pooched.
I am still thinking it's probably a linkage issue, hoping anyway.

Give them a call or e-mail .They are busy as always, but Glen
is pretty good about telling you about what to look for.

Good Luck :|

hey thanks very much for the input guys. i really appreciate it.

unfortunately, all my tools are in storage, and i currently don't have the room to do any kind of Deli surgery. i expect to know what the issue is, when i take her into the shop on monday morning. hard part will be getting her out of her current parking spot, then driving her to kelowna(1.5 hour drive)...
i'm just sitting on the edge of my seat, nervous as hell that this will cost me dearly...
i suspect that this will be my christmas modding money... :-(

all i can do, i hope that its' the linkage, and that the tranny won't have to be opened. :?

Good questions, also is there any metal flake in the oil. If so another long drive may cost more than getting it towed in. Good luck
let us know how you make out with it.

Okay.

I'm only going to reply in this thread because you created a duplicate thread here : http://www.delica.ca/forum/transmission-chaos-6903.html

and everyone knows I'm a stickler for people creating multiple threads on the same thing or every little question they have.

With that said, here's my armchair synopsis. Throw it at your mechanic if he agrees.

Check the simple things first. I've found over my years that some shops will automatically assume the worst and start working at that, possibly skipping over something simple that could save money and time.

Linkages at the shifter, in between (stuck ?) and at the transmission.

Like I said in the OTHER thread of yours on the SAME topic.
jfarsang wrote:Disconnect the shift linkage at the transmission

Jack up the Delica so that ALL four wheels are evenly off the ground and the whole vehicle is supported by either a hoist or proper weighted jack stands.

With all four wheels off the ground and the shift linkage disconnected at the trans, have someone push the clutch down and go through the shift points at the transmission directly.

That will tell you whether or not it's the linkage (between trans and shifter) or transmission internal/ like Andy said.

And try not to be PISSED !!!!

Nothing good will come out of it. By being upset or angry, you may miss something or screw something up. Not good.

Just keep a cool head, take a step back and look at things from a different perspective. There's more ways than "PISSED" to look at things.

Good luck :M

If no reverse engagement at all, good forward engagement and nothing in reverse then it's the forward planetary.

In the pan, you'll likely find fine metal on the magnet and some glittery chunks scattered about. The planetary isn't something you'd want to just replace with doing an overhaul on the tranny. At least do a reseal with rings, if not the clutches too.

Or better yet, just get a used one from Glenn with a warranty.

Of course, nothing can be determined with 100% certainty over the internet.

The mechanic looking at it will figure it out.

Transmissions are a different breed that takes a certain skilled mechanic to work on them properly.

Make sure yours is one of them before attempting to rip into the trans.

Remember. Simple things first. Like the transmission fluid. Before you do anything, check the current level and see where it sits. Also check the smell for burnt oil and once you've done that, then drain and check for metal flakes as I mentioned above. Once that's done, then go over the shift linkage from front to back like I said above as well.

More heads are better than one and I think I've laid out enough options for you guys to get a good start.

My mistake. Planetary = auto :-)

*** UPDATE***

took my deli to Coast Transmission in kelowna this morning.
the mechanic unhooked the linkage, put it on stands, and tried to put it in reverse.
no joy.
he removed the bottom inspection plate to find metal chunks(unrecognizeable) sticking to the bottom of the plate. :o
to say the least, i was NOT impressed one bit.Image

tranny comes out 2morrow for more examination. it might need to be replaced. im hoping that they can repair the damaged stuff(other gears work ok).
i gave the guys a list of Delica sources for parts.
i hope whatever they need doesn't come at to high a cost. i have to have a car for work. i'm now renting a car for $56/day. all i can say is that the longer this takes, the more its' going to cost me... i'm terrified.

i suspect i won't be adding any new mods in the new year. :(

In hindsight have you contacted any of the parts suppliers if they have a working used one in stock and how long it would take to ship it or if they need to get it ready ahead of time ?

If not, I would get on the horn.

Good luck and sorry to hear.

It's all part of owning a vehicle. They are all the same. Takes money to keep them going.

Sorry to hear about the "chunks" coming out of it, thats never good. It may be cheaper, faster, better to find a used box than to rebuild
the old one. Let us know how it pans out for you. Merry Christmas.

Hi Al:

Are you back on the road yet?

back on the road today... new tranny seems fine. 4th gear doesnt 'pop out' on decelleration anymore... :-)
guys at coast told me the tranny had clear looking gear oil in it when they received it.

all i can say to everyone is: baby your transmission! they are rediculous to buy!
Got $1600? they had me by the balls, and they knew it...
very unimpressed with the wreckers' service. they were very slow. it should take 4 hours to pull a tranny, not 4 days! :-(

unimpressed with the service that COAST got with my list of lower mainland suppliers. apparently of the list i gave them, only ONE shop/supplier called them back... it was almost like they didn't want the business or something... :?

however, the guys at coast powertrain get a thumbs up! :-) they rated #1 for service. they had no delica experience, but tackled the job head on anyways. very professional. :-) the mechanic also told me of u joint wear. looks like that will be my next expense this summer. i will be taking this up with coast, when i can find the parts.

Glad you're back on the road.

Transmissions are universal. A good tranny shop can fix any tranny.
