electrical question

Hi folks, my super exceed is having a slight issue and hoping someone can shed light on it. When I go to start it up I find there is a slight slowing down turning over than normal. It has always turned over quickly up until recently after I had mistakenly left one of the small interior lights on overnight. The next morning as I walked towards the van I noticed the light was on but still shining bright, it was -20 and was plugged in. Went to start and cranked over easily like normal but since then it has slowed a little, just doesn't have the enthusiasm as usuall. I was thinking immediatly the batteries but the interior lights and dash lights shine like there is no problem. Now the batteries are still Japanese but havent changed them because they always work and they breezed through a colder than normal praire winter last season. I had my alternator replaced when I bought the van a year and a half ago so that is probably not the issue. The only thing I can think of is that the van doesnt run on the highway enough and maybe is not charging up to capacity?? Any ideas.

Cheers and Merry Christmas,

Rob

Get the batterys and chargeing system checked out just to make sure that everything is working correctly and check the battery terminals as the tend to get a build up of corosion between the terminal and the battery post that can cause a bad connection which will cause you symptoms.
It could be that the batterys are stating to fail as the may have been fine but they are reaching then end of there life span.
Only way to find out is to have some one test the chargeing system.
Good luck and Merry Christmas

Besides checking the terminal posts, which is a pain when it is cold, I'd recommend putting a battery charger (a 10+ amp type) on the system for a few hours. See if that makes a difference. If you drive in the city in the winter, it is quite possible it isn't charging up any more than used in starting.

If those checks don't fix it -- and they are free -- have a garage do a battery load test. That will tell you if they batteries are dying, near dead, or you have a charging issue.

Good luck in the new year!
