EGT GAUGE

Merry Christmas to ya all !
Just finished installing a EGT Gauge and hit 1200F up a hill.
It seems a little high....
Just wondering what sort of Temp others are seeing out there and what the Max is for a deli before you start cooking exaust valves ETC?
Cheers.

Where did you install your probe?
I have mine just after the turbo and I rarely visit 1200 but I've seen it of a few occasions. I regularly run at 750-800 but can easily go up to 900 in a slight uphill or head wind and keeping up hwy speed. A good hill will flirt with 1000 but by that time I usually ease off.

Nice gauge install
Can you post the specs of what you put in? I'm hoping to do the same in the next few months.
I put in a new rad last summer because my temp gauge was reading high in the mountains and the cost was a minor part of the standard water pump/belts/delitune package. But my temps still seem to be reading high and I doubt a temp sending unit on th front of the block will be as accurate as an EGT.

Thanks for the compliment.
The EGT Gauge is a Blue Prosport PN# 216BBFBLEGT270F.
Its range is 0-2500 Deg F.
Its OD is 2 1/16 ".It fit with a little mod into the OEM Three pod dash cluster and I spliced into the existing wiring. The Thermo couple wires were long enough to follow the original wire harness all the way to the engine....
It has a K type thermocouple and self performs a full sweep every time it powers up for cal/accuaracy...very cool.
Now that I have it working I am a little concerned why my Deli is so hot headed...
I wonder if its running to lean...
Maybe I should now install a fuel/air ratio gauge.
Cheers.

When you say aft of the turbo, where exactly?
And what do you get on the flat at 100km/h?
A hill can be different % incline, length... I can hit 1200 if I try to keep up the speep. It doesn't always have to be very steep or long but good on you to monitor your truck.
Also remember that your gauge accuracy can vary somewhat from mine or others. Get used to your reading and you'll know what is normal and what's too hot ie. your easy drive, flat hwy reading might be 950 so that'd be your baseline.
But dirty injectors, exhaust restriction would also cause higher EGT. You know your service history, go from there.
Cheers.

You can easily hit 1200 (aft/behind the turbo) on the L300 against a bit of headwind and uphill.
If you have a larger exhaust, that will help it breath.

I have my probe in my egr blank plate...on the flat at 100 km/h indicated i'm running about 700-750 *F @ about 10-12psi boost. My boost tops at 16psi for reference, running 2.5 inch side dump exhaust non stainless. Also running K&N air filter.

I just got back from headed up Hwy 33 towards bigwhite to take my Boys tobogining.Quite a steep climb probably close to 10% grade.Deli handled it quite well.EGT hit almost 1200F and then backed off.I think I am goind to look into installing a larger exaust.I like the idea of installing a less restrictive exaust it sonds like the 2.5 od side dump is the way to go.Did you do this Mod your self? What type of resonator did you install?
Cheers.

I used 2.5 tube from Crappy tire a couple of elbows , an adapter, and a Cherry bomb turbo muffler....total cost was about $100 and about an hours worth of my time. I cut the original exhaust just after the flange at the manifold and welded on from there. Or, you could go to a muffler shop and get a quality stainless system custom done which is what I will eventually do, although my homemade system has been on for a year with no issues.

Thanks for the reply,
Does it travel the whole length of vehicle before side exiting?
Do you happen to have any Pics?
Thanks for your time.
Cheers.

You'll have a lot of info for your last question if you use the search function (search for side exhaust or...). But here's one to get you started (I've since changed it to clear the restriction at the top of the dump pipe).

Thanks alot man I really appriciate your time,I did try the search function for exaust and did not seem to find anything at that time.....
I will keep you posted on how the exaust mod goes and how it effects the EGT.

spelling matters in searching :) exhaust not exaust, but I searching both is good as people don't always spell right in posts, people like me when my spell check fails :)
