Be prepaired to clean it regularily. A k&n in the stock can makes a world of differnce and you still get the advantages of a sealed airbox, which is important if you offroad or drive in inclimate weather regular.

Yeah I like the way you think,Maybe getting rid of the can would be more of a problem then good in respect to being wide open to debris.Maybe I should just stick with a K and in the can....
Thanks for your imput.

I hope to change to a K&N universal unit in the next few weeks. I'll let you know how it works.

So are you are going to ditch the original can setup and fit on a universal cone?
I was originally thinking of attatching it as shown below but meanman's got me thinking otherwise....
How are you going to protect the cone when wheelin?

The provided link seems to show the E-4810 filter is only good on 87 and 88 L300 ? Did Mitsusbishi change the filter can for later years? Mines a 94.......

I hope to put the air filter in front of the Rad and get rid of the old air cleaner system to use for a future air/water intercooler when time and money permit.

That sounds like a good idea......, I wonder though would the hot air coming off the radiator effect performance? Wouldnt you want cold outside ram air for your intake?

Just curious does the air intake for the turbo also come from the filter can?
Cheers.

See the response to the identical question in the other thread... but basically, yes. ALL air coming in from the outside world goes in to the filter, then from the filter to the turbo, and from the turbo to the engine. This is how turbo-charged engines work.

Thanks for the reply,
Yeah, I realize all incoming air gets filtered .... I guess I meant is there a duct coming directly off the can to the turbo intake or further down the line.In any case I have removed the can filter assy today and can now see there is no other ducts. At first glance it looks like there is a lot going on with that induction system.I am going to atempt to get rid of it all and install a Cone K and N Tommorow and will post some Pics when done.
Cheers.

There is no "further down the line", the air doesn't go anywhere other than the turbo. In turbo charged engines, ALL the air goes through the turbo.

Thanks for the reply green 1.
I have now removed the original Can Assy and have installed a K and N Filter in its place directly attatched to the intake pipe.I do notice some power gain at the cost of a little more noise..not really a cool sound either....I will post some Pics later.A majority of the noise seems to be coming from under the deli.I was thinking if I was to close off the compartment maybe with a louver or two for air it would reduce the noise substantially.Any thoughts out there to this idea?
Cheers.
