hi
i am in the process of switching over japanese headlights for E coded headlights.
i just swapped the lights but havent yet wired the DRL.
with the new headlights in the low beam position, the low beam works but the high beam come on dim. high beam works fine by itself. but then i turn the switch off and the headlights stay on. disconnect then reconnect the battery and they are off again.
do i need a new multiswitch or something?

this is hard to say for sure, but a couple of things worth checking...
- when you wired in the new headlights, you had to chop and splice a connector on the back, are you positive you got it all wired up right? if your wires aren't right then you can get all sorts of weird issues.
- you could have damaged the multi-switch, however this is most likely if you did some wiring wrong (as stated above) so really make double, or triple sure on this one first.

the lights i got arent depos, and they have the triangular plug. so i didnt have to cut any wires. ill double check in the AM that they all connect up right

the wires for the low beam were switched inside one of the headlights. all is fine now

umm.. all is not fine now....
it was solved, but its doing it again! the wiring is right, it think...
i installed a grote 44060 DRL module. i eleminated that again to be sure it wasnt the problem.
the headlight is an E coded headlight but not depo thus no city light module
so: lowbeams on also runs high beams dimly. switch off but lights stay on. remove battery cable lights go off. return battery cable light stay off untill swithc is turned on.
when i sent it away for the inspection it was fine. the only alteration they did was run the park light wire to the turn signal to make it a side running light. that was at CCAuto they know what theyre doing...
now...
if i remove the high beam bulb from the psngr side light, the low beam on that one goes off too and the driver side light then works properly.
i swapped bulbs around but no change.
another clue:
my multi-meter reads -4 volts at all the connection on the psngr light when its on. i have never seen a minus voltage reading....
wtf?

The -4 volts sounds like a backfeed (reverse polarity). If you run a solid ground back to the battery from the light socket does it
go away. Funky dim lights that come on when they shouldn't always sounds like a ground problem. Buen Suerte.

Ari,
What headlights did you get to replace ?
I was thinking about Dodge D1000 headlights and getting away from the "dual bulb" thing, but Mardy says they don't fit as good as Depo.
Depending on what the cost is , I might TOFTT as see if they will work.

i forget exactly the brand name, but they are the "other" popular Ecode thats not depot. there is a low beam and a high beam of course, but no the third "city" light
