Has anyone come up with a solution so when it is raining you can keep the vent windows open (while parked) and not flood the van. Would the plastic visors work on those windows?

there are specialized platic covers for those windows, but good luck finding them...
If you are parked, I would consider some form of tarp like material that magnets to the side of the vehicle above the window... seems plausible..

personally I only open the front windows because they have the monsoon guards.

I don't really have a good way of leaving them open, except as stated earlier, those plastic guards, but they aren't easy to find for the side windows.

One thing I have considered though to make opening and closing them easier, is to scavange the motors and switches from a domestic mini-van in the scrap yard with the power rear windows, seems to me that it should be a relatively simple mod to make power pop-out windows that way...

As long as you don't have a crystal-lite roof... because if you do, I have no idea where you'll put a 7" diameter vent!
