Correct Coolant

Hi all-
Looking for the coolant spec for the 2.8 diesel in my L400. Questions for those in the know: do I need an SCA (is it a wet liner engine)? Any aluminum compatibility issues?

Please recommend a coolant if you can, and if so, please back it up with why. I would prefer a specific spec, and a description of the engine and rad. Specifically, any major aluminum parts?

Thanks in advance...

I'm not an expert on coolant, however I believe you need to account for alumninum. (I think the head is aluminum?)

you are 100% right about proper coolant as we do have a sleeved engine and the PH must be right or you will be breaking it down . The majority of antifreezes/coolants are aluminium compatable, but check, but just being compatable is not enough for the L400.
Your coolant Must be for a diesel, dont go with a universal brand or just becuase you used a brand in your gas engine car...
I went to P&R western star for mine, I think it was Fleetguard brand and its allready set up for and specially designed for sleeved engines and diesel specific,, but check with any counter person at a truck shop or industrial shop. Its not cheap, but either is rebuilding your engine and then buying the proper coolant

Still have not found a brand that is OK for wet liners. Does the L400 have wet liners? Sleeved is no big deal, what matters is if the coolant is on the liner itself.

Any brand suggestions? Canadian Tire sells an OAT diesel coolant that does not require an SCA, but it says nothing about aluminum...
