L400 Options?

I have been trying to figure out the options on the L400's, and there is no FAQ on this like the L300's...
The closest I have been able to come is this thread:
http://www.delica.ca/forum/old-member-t ... 46-75.html
Looking at auction sites, I have come across the following options: "AC SR AW PS PW"
AC == Air Conditioning
SR == ???
AW == ???
PS == Power Steering
PW == ???
I know that the Royal Exceed has "all" the options vs. the other models, but without an L400 specific FAQ on the features, I am left a little confused over all this. (I know that different versions can have totally different features, but I am having some difficulty parsing out what those features are, and how to identify them.)

AW = all wheel drive?
PW = Power windows I'd bet
SR = I have no idea
I really wish people would stop being lazy, adds on the internet aren't charged by the letter like newspaper ads or something, type the whole Fn word! you will probably sell you stuff faster as people will know what your talking about.
*goes to check his ad to make sure he didn't do this too* lol.

G'day.. It is almost impossible to generalise with the options on L400 because MMC in Japan is happy to give what ever you want as an option. The best way to go is to get a Super Exceed if you can because they have most of the worthwhile options and all the chrome bits. Delicas are very cheap at the auctions so getting the low spec ones with the white bumpers and steps is something usually only dealers do. They can pick up L400s with the painted white bars and steps for almost nothing, especially 94-5 models, because the private buyers all want the better quality ones.
If you get a Super or a Royal you may get ABS which is an option well worth having. Cheers..

I thought it meant "Super Rare", you know, like one of those manual L300s that one of those dealers was bringing in to the country...
...I'm a cheeky monkey!

Wow! Great resource guys, thanks! I think I might combine the details from the previous thread I mentioned plus jfarsang's excellent post (although jfarsang gets all the credit

) as a post on the FAQ section.
I really like what Stiful has mentioned a few times about going for a Super with all the desired options as opposed to a Royal. I have seen a Super that Mardy has listed that seems to have all the options that I want. Except Manual Transmission. (Mardy has that, but all the extra features I want are not available in the manual transmission model).
What does the winterized package include? I believe it is dual battery, heated seats and heated front windscreen? Is this correct?
Another great thread is shown here:
http://www.delica.ca/forum/l400-royal-e ... tml#p49885
(Just trying to collect the resources in one location, so when other people have the same questions as me, things can be found more quickly).

I'm not sure that the heated windscreen and the heated seats are part of the "winter package", they may be extra. I believe the winter package includes the dual batteries and a larger alternator.

The alternator was the same size on all the L400's I've seen. Base, Exceed, Super, Royal.
The only one's I've seen with the heated strip on the windshield for the wiper blades are Royal and a few Super's.
The solenoids, alternator, IP, ECU have the same part #'s on all the L400's I've looked at.
The only thing I can think of for a 'winter package' would be dual batteries.
But what I've seen so far is the single battery tray holds a very large single battery that looks almost the size as two tiny one's combined. I like the single tray large battery myself.
There is no benefit today (compared to 15 years ago) to having two batteries in parallel on a 12V circuit (L300/L400/Pajero).
Battery technology has changed so that a single battery can have the equivalent or more output/storage compared to two batteries back then.
The only time when a 2nd battery is beneficial would be as an auxiliary battery to power other things (winch/fridge/etc...) or on a dedicated 24V system (Toyota Landcruisers, etc...)
All L400's have the 'cold start' which may be interpreted as 'winter package' for some. It's used in comparing the L300 Delica. It's this :
http://www.delica.ca/forum/low-idle-whe ... -7275.html
jfarsang wrote:There is a 'cold start' package on all L400's.
This is a cold idle device which is a thermal capsule which expands when the engine coolant is hot.
When the engine is cold, the timing is advanced and idle rpm is higher than normal.
As coolant temp increases, the capsule moves a lever to retard timing a bit/ lower the idle speed.
It's a little tube going from the block to the injection pump.
If your idle is low, check to see if the tube is clogged.

Basically, the Delica Cargo/Space Gear can be separated into 8 different trim levels. If you will like, I will get back to this another time when I have a bit more time on my hands.
Low end ...
- Delica Cargo E
- Delica Cargo G, Delica Space Gear G, Delica Space Gear X
- Delica Space Gear XE
- Delica Cargo GX, Delica Space Gear XG (incl. Chamonix, Jasper, Aero)
- Delica Space Gear XR, Delica Space Gear Exceed-I (incl. Jasper Exceed-I), Delica Space Gear Exceed-8
- Delica Space Gear Exceed-II (incl. Jasper Exceed-II), Delica Space Gear Exceed
- Delica Space Gear Super Exceed
- Delica Space Gear Royal Exceed
... High end
The twin sun roof can be had with the XR/Exceed-I/Exceed-8 and Exceed-II/Exceed trim levels. You need to look at least an Exceed-II/Exceed to get the crystal lite roof. Interestingly, you can get any two of 4WD, crystal lite roof and long wheelbase in that trim level, but not all three. To get all three, you need to look at the Super Exceed and Royal Exceed. The crystal lite roof is standard on the Super Exceed and Royal Exceed. The Royal Exceed has LWB as standard.
jfarsang wrote:-Royal Exceed model (crystalite roof only)

You have to wait two years after the release of the Delica Space Gear to get the LSD with your 2.8L diesel-powered long wheelbase model, hence the Royal Exceed missed out for those couple of years.

hrmmm... I'll have to check, but I was pretty sure that my Royal had a limited slip... (my importer certainly said it did anyway...)

Not correct.
Three super exceed's and the last two royals I've seen all had the standard limited slip rear diff. Checked and tested.
All 1994 models

Are you sure that they are original equipment and not an aftermarket conversion? The three major Japanese car catalogues,
http://english.auto.vl.ru/,
http://catalog.carsensorlab.net/ and
http://www.goo-net.com/, all indicate that for the first couple of years, the LSD was an option for the PD4W, PD6W, PD8W, PE8W and PF6W and not available to the PF8W.
Edit: Above statement is incorrect. Refer to the next page.
jfarsang wrote:The only thing I can think of for a 'winter package' would be dual batteries.
It is rather hard to tell. Some diesel models had the two batteries as standard, which might mean that those particular models had the cold climate package as standard. With the petrol models, it is even harder. The 6G72 models had the one battery, with or without the cold-climate package. With the 4G64 engine, you had one battery for the standard model and a larger battery for the cold climate.

What are the odds of five L400's coming from different places, manufactured in different months all have the same factory limited slip rear diff ?
Counting seven as of yesterday.
Too much of a conincidence if you ask me.
When checking the alternators, I haven't seen one larger/more amperage than the others. They were all the same.
Only difference I saw was the batteries I mentioned above.
