Hi. I drive a '93 Pajero 2.8 Diesel lwb and my batteries are dying. One of the batteries is from Japan and one is a really bad refurbished number.
What kind of batteries should I get? Sometimes at Xmas I drive up north into the interior where it's cold. I'd like to just go to Canadian Tire or somewhere close by. Any recommendations?

Canadian Tire batteries are fine, just make sure you replace the pair, not just one. 550-650 cold crank amps is fine for a 2.8. Thats what I used in my 7.3 Ford and could get about 3 years out of them.

Sure there are better ones out there, but you pay for it. I've never really seen any difference in longevity between high end and mid priced batteries. I have a single Kirkland that was put in when my Delica came over from Sushiville back in early 2008. Still running strong

The reality is you could get away with putting in a single battery.

The thing to keep in mind with multiple batteries is that a single good one will not 'pull up' any bad ones - a bad battery will always drag down a good battery (this is why multiples are replaced en-masse).

If you do decide to put in only a single battery, you'll have to change the strap-down assembly as well, but even with that it could be cheaper than replacing two batteries.

Be mindful of the fusible links inside the battery tank: there's a handful of them, and after 15 years some of them might be fragile. Your first indicator will be something no longer working after you change the battery(ies).
