It doesn't come with one? Huh! I thought it did...
Depending on where you intend to mount it, a Pajero or an L400 (slightly larger) might be a good fit. But I remember one of the younger crowd mentioning that the Celica(?) or some other Toyota had a good-sized intercooler (read: small) that was quite readily available.
Pretty much any intercooler would work, just as long as you could mount it somewhere in the path of airflow. If you wanted to swing by my house sometime after work to take a look at my Pajero (for ideas), I'd be willing to pop the bonnet to let you look how things are routed.

I wish it did come with an intercooler then I wouldn't have to ponder about putting one in...also the frustration it will cause me doing so. I also might not have to downshift into 4th going up the malahat, that would be nice.
The engine bay is smaller than the pajero making it 'interesting' to find a respectable spot and the right intercooler and input/output positions on the intercooler.
As to the invite: thanks but my brother has a pajero so i know the setup in one pretty well. I'm pretty sure i dont want to punch a hole in the hood to get my airflow though so i might have to make a tunnel of sort to one side of the cooler and then a fan to draw that air through it. looking like a front mount cooler would be out of the question aswell.
Thanks again for the invite.

Even a thin cooler in front of the water radiator? Not enough room between it and the grille?

it might work as that is where the power steering cooler is mounted. I would be concerned about the diameter drop though.
Going from large to small(cooler core) to large diameter piping would be adding restriction(would that impede the effect of the turbo or create an unwanted back pressure possibly damaging the turbo?). Or upon hiting the cooler, the air velocity would accelerate, then decelerate upon exiting to the larger diameter again.
I'm undecided on exactly what affect it would have on the system. would it be desirable? would it lag the turbo moreso than a regular intercooler piping setup? would it be worth my time and money for such a small setup?
I obviously have to take more time to see what size cooler and where one can fit into my vehicle.

Pajero intercooler and piping found for 200 bucks in alberta. thanks to a parts vehicle on 4x4wire.com
the only difference for my installation will be that my intake manifold is different (ports into the manifold located differently) but i can make changes to the piping to make it work.
Cant wait!!!!

That seems extremely steep for a factory cooler, I have a buddy with one that he would let go of for ~$50-60. Someones already got dibs on my old one for a case of beer, so $30. I put front mounts in both of our trucks, much better airflow, I don't know what kind of room is in the strada. Although a front mount involves alot more fabbing.

i agree, it is a little steep, but there is very little room to play with under my hood. and a front mount would include alot of fab work that i dont want to get into. i wish i knew your buddy had one for cheaper yesterday. i've already paid and its on the way.

With your description of little room in the engine bay, it sounds like Mitsubishi just pushed the L300 engine bay from under the seats to in front of the cab. It would be interesting to see pictures of your install once you're done (or maybe even to see it in person).

I will let you know when it is complete.
