Delica in winter in Whitehorse

Has anyone experienced Whitehorse with their Delica? I'm from Vancouver Island and plan to fetch my Delica and drive it up here at the end of April. While I feel good about her condition, I am concerned that if anything does go wrong that I will have difficulty finding someone to fix her, and also, I'm concerned about having it here through next winter. Has anyone experienced Whitehorse with their Delica and especially a winter that could give me some advice?

I haven't experianced Whitehorse in winter, however I have experianced winter in White Mule :o

There is tons of info on this site regarding your concerns.

1) Block heater

2) The right oil (some debate, much info)

3) Full fuel tank, always full!

4) Read, read, then read some more!

Use the search as well as wiki to dig deeper into your concerns. Preventative is a sound approach.

Hope this helps. (even if just a bit)

Remember that your -40 is the same as my -40

We used our van in Regina this winter where there were stretches of 40 below. It always started up as soon as it turned over and ran with no issues. Good block heater and 5-30 synthetic oil. If your van is in a good state of tune, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

In North BC I had an old VW Jetta Diesel that had a bad rings and low compression problem (made cold starts hard).

I went with Block heater, battery blanket, and Oil Pan oil heater (big fan of these as they pre-warm oil).

Cheers

I passed through Whitehorse on my trip, but it was July & August. Had no problems, The Alaska Highway is all paved. There is a Delica that lived there (2008), and might still do so. We met the owners in Inuvik, and they are nice people. There are lots of JDMs in Whitehorse, so you shouldn't have too many issues, as long as it isn't a long weekend!

So, did you make the trip? How was it?
