Good day. My question is simply this; what effect will the HST have on the purchase price of Delica purchased from a dealer? I am getting close to finally being in a position to buy, and I am wondering if it is worth my while to buy before the HST takes effect. Thoughts?

hi, to buy car from a dealer like me HST & the present one GST & PST is the same.
but buying from a private user will be cheaper as you dont pay PST on top of the price list
but when it comes to june this year either buying from dealer or private will be same tax.
you have to pay 12%HST also on private sale.
Cheers;

you pay 12% once HST comes in on private sales. However it is not HST it all goes to BC...BC government snuck it in and are trying to make it look like HST. It is not. Drity politics,

So everytime a car is resold the government collects money...no matter how many times it sells???

When I grow up I am opening a government

There is an official petition travelling around that is connected to the BC electorates. Sign it. Stop the robbery.

Do nothing? Then you might as well start unbuckling your trousers now :o .

Falco.

Come mid-November, any MLA that votes for the HST deserves to face recall petitions.

Great. Now when I go out for dinner and drinks I pay 15% tip, 12% HST, and 10% liquor tax for a grand total of 37% tax... I guess I just wont tip!

It has been confirmed that we as private buyers or private importers do not pay tax twice.

Private buyer : HST at time of sale. No HST at time of registration.
Private importer : 5% of HST at customs. 7% of HST at registration.

Here is the e-mail from the HST website contact forum-
______________________________________________
Thank you for your inquiry. We apologize for the delay in responding.

When importing a vehicle, the 5% federal portion of the HST (the GST)
will be collected at the border by Canada Border Services Agency. The 7%
provincial portion of the HST will be collected upon registration of the
vehicle.

The provincial tax on the private sale of vehicles will not apply in
these circumstances.

When buying from a dealership, the dealership charges HST. When registering the vehicle, proof of HST purchase (when you bought it) waives HST at time of registration.
