From the searching I've done it looks like the L300 oil filters (BD28, PH6355, WIX 51067) are compatible with the L400 am I correct? I know the BD7095 (or WIX 51809) has also been suggested for the L400, is this just a longer version of the BD28?

I can tell you the 2 are definitely not the same... (the L400 filter is about double the size of the L300 one)
though I can't say if they are thread compatible as I haven't tried...

even if they are though, would it be a good idea to interchange them? surely there's some reason for the extra size?

So what do you use for your filters? The BD7095?

So far I've only had to do one oil change on the L400 (I've only put on 7800km so far and Mardy did an oil change on it before I picked it up from him) and I used the genuine Mitsubishi filter that Mardy supplied me with the vehicle. I'm sorry, it seems I forgot to write down the part number in my vehicle log. (which is odd, because I remember saving the box to do so... I'll have to re-investigate)

But I do know that sometime before I get to my next oil change I will need to tackle a source for these things, preferably local, so I'm definitely interested in knowing what works and what doesn't!

Well I ordered a couple of Fram PH8933 filters from Lordco, they get in tomorrow. I'll let you know if they fit. I know Fram have a bad rep from some people on the forum, but Baldwin filters take a lot longer to order into Lordco.

Hello, I shopped around Lordco and Napa for Baldwin or Fram but I ended up going to max o/d in Vancouver because the price was quite a bit cheaper.

Les Hall Filters in NVan carries Baldwin. I use Baldwin on DDA's & Cat's at work.

We also change filters every 150-200 hours and was thinking about tossing in an hourmeter on my Goofy Van to see the relationship between time and mileage on my oil changes.

The Fram PH8933 fits and it is only $19.50 @ Lordco with an account. It looks like the L400s also take 6.5L of engine oil. Is that what other people have found?

Adam, 6.5 gave me something to look at on the dipstick and I topped up from there. That's using the OEM Mitsubishi filter.

Mine took over 7L

Fram Ph9055 was a good fit, messured up the same, Took 7.5L of oil to top it up.

I'm planning to change my oil this weekend. I'll try and get the Fram Ph9055 from Lordco. I've tried to get a filter from Mardy but just haven't been able to make the trek out to Richmond.

Any advice on changing the oil and filter, this will be my first time doing it myself on the L400? My last car had oil changes included free from the dealer, so I haven't done one myself in many years. I read a couple posts on the UK site but thought I'd check locally for some helpful tips.

7.5L total cap.

Remove skid plate - not necessary but makes it easier
remove filler cap on valve cover
15/17mm oil pan drain plug
drain oil
then unscrew oil filter and drain
once drained, insert oil pan bolt with new washer
insert new oil filter
don't overtighten either one !
Fill 7L and measure topping up to 7.5Lish
