What oil do you use guys?

In my first Pajero I used semi synthetic Shell 10W40.
Cannot find now-days.

Also how many liters does 2,8L engine take?

Thanks,

I like Lubro Moly Semi Synthetic/15W40.

I believe the 2.8 takes six and an half litres, like the 2.5. Check through L400 Delica Downloads, there's bound to be something.

That's if you let the oil cooler drain out along with the filter. I found 6.5 litres filled it just fine, same as my ol' 2500 in the Moon Machine.

Even simpler: drain, fill with 6.5 litres. If not full, add until.

As for type: 15W40 for diesel, and I usually get the 20 litre bucket from Lordco (seems good enough, but then I'm not trying to win the Pat Bay 12000 each morning).

Ha! Those rats on the Pat Bay Hwy are nuts.

I like the Lubro Moly SS because it holds up well and sticks to the higher up regions of the engine while it is off. I use the 15W40 as I live in the Lower Mainland and it doesn't often get much colder than -15C. If I start using lighter oil ~ I'll likely start pouring meths into the diesel, too. Floating somewhere around the forum is a fairly recent thread that has an oil chart in it.

Ah, found it:

OK, found where to get Shell Rotella T5 10W30 SB (synthetic blend).

Diesel mechanic told me to use Castrol 15W40.

According to the owner's manual we should use 10W30.

Any suggestions?

If you dont leave the lower mainland I would stick with a 10 or 15 w40. I found when heading into the interior and beyond, you really need a 5w40 or the poor little motor whirls like crazy every time you start it. You can really hear and feel the friction, even at -10c.

Could that manual be for a petrol engine Paj?
I would be inclined to use your diesel mechanic's advice and use 15W40. 10W30 is typically what goes into a gasoline engine, which has a compression ratio of around 8:1. The 4D56 diesel engine has a far greater compression ratio of 21:1. A lot of things are different on a diesel, 15W40 is often labelled as "Diesel Engine Oil".

It is definitely for 2,8 diesel. Please have a look. I cannot read Japanese :-(
but in red frame info pretty much self explanatory. Now I am really confused also because I have ordered 40L of 10W30 already :-(

I'm not sure what to say, Pajerist. I see the numbers that you have highlighted and I also see an awful lot of Japanese writing that for all I know could be saying don't use these numbers together. Probably not the case. I am not a mechanic, so my word is not authoritative. Just always been told that gas = 10W30 and diesel = 15W40.

Have you looked in the download section? That's in English.

OK, Falco.

I just sent pics to my importer to Japan with translation request (probably I should do it first)...

Here
http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2009 ... 81783.html
says: "after extensive laboratory and field testing in heavy-duty engines, its Delo® 400 LE SAE 10W-30 oil has demonstrated an ability to provide fuel economy improvements over the more commonly used 15W-40 grade diesel oil."

Also here
http://www.worldsbestoil.ca/which-30-weight-oil.php
says: "The only time we recommend a 40 weight oil, such as AMSOIL's 10W-40, to a customer in a passenger car or light truck application is if the vehicle's engine is excessively worn and consumes oil at a higher than normal rate or if the vehicle is being used for very severe duty, high load, high temperature applications."

Anybody else?

At the page 32 of http://www.delica.ca/manuals/L-400%20Ma ... 97_E12.pdf from Download and FAQ section says:

Cold climate 10W30,
Moderate climate 15W40,
Hot climate 20W40

So, are we in cold or moderate climate in BC in winter?

Moderate to cold. Lower Mainland and the Island, moderate. The rest of BC, bloody cold. Depending on the Winter, of course.
