Hello,

My '92 super exceed leaks oil. The guy I took it to says it is leaking out from the turbo, and that is a good sign that it is shot or close to it. It is hard to tell if it is the turbo or the front seal, I'll have to clean it really well and run it and watch it closely to see what is happening. In any case, is the turbo an external part that can be removed and replaced? If so, I will need to get one. Please advise about where to look for a good turbo in good condition. Also, the A/C tension wheel is totally seized and this has chewed up the belt entirely. So, I am also looking for the A/C tensioner wheel. I haven't noticed a dramatic decrease in power, but then again I don't drive it much, mostly the wife takes it out.

Yes it's an external part bolted onto the manifold.
So yup,it can be replaced.

Carl,

I don't understand how this mechanic is having a hard time distinguishing the turbo from the front seal they are somewhat unique from each other. The turbocharger is mounted on the exhaust manifold, which is underneath the drivers seat. Most of the turbos leak when they come from Japan. The leak is usually minimal and evaporates before it reaches the floor. If the turbo leaks it doesn't mean the turbo is toast, necessarily.

I would be inclined to find a diesel mechanic ~ these machines are easy. There is one guy on this site who is a diesel mechanic. He goes by the name Manitoba Deli and says he's been doing it for 18 odd years. He owns a Delica and I think he is in Winnipeg. Why not give him a try?

As far as trading your Delica for a shorter one: If you have a "P35" then there is the "P25", in which the roof is generally five inches lower ~ remembering that I have not seen your garage. If you're not sure which kind of Delica you have then beside the driver's seat, between the seat and the door, is a little plastic pull lid and under that is a code that tells you what your vehicle is. The first three letters should tell you if it's a high roof (P35) or low roof (P25). Another forum and thread on this site you can check is Delica FAQ Section/L300 Vehicle Identification.

Most Delicas in this club are diesels so I am going to presume that your's is, too. Driving a diesel is a little bit different from driving a gasoline powered vehicle, such as cycling the glow plugs before engaging the ignition, or letting the turbo spool down when the engine has just come off the highway before you turn it off, otherwise the turbo keeps spinning at an incredible RPM without oil feed.
