The Italian Tune Up

I should be picking up my L400 from Mardy tomorrow as I am finally returning to BC from Memphis. I am planning on visiting family in the Okanagan for part of the weekend before returning home to Victoria.

Now, I know Mardy takes the vehicles out for their own Italian Tune Up along the highways around Vancouver, but I am planning on giving my 1995 Royal Exceed a tuneup on the Coquihalla on the way to the Okanagan.

My question is, for the L400, what is the appropriate RPM (roughly) to hold while doing the tuneup? I know not to redline it, but what would be the best range to be in to get a good Italian tune up on the way to the Okanagan?

My Pyro is in Victoria - and not yet installed in the Delica!

Miss Lil' Bitchi: L300; 2.5TD; Coquihalla; three grand in third gear.

On your way back ~ between Kamloops and Cache Creek is a rather long, straight & level stretch of road that is perfect for Italian tune-ups.

Falco.

I just did exactly this run. Well, Vancouver - Lilooet - Merritt - Harrison - Vancouver loop.

3000 RPM is the magic number for me. If I cross it, engine temp will climb and eventually I'll have to ease off.

After having much more experience at highway speeds I've found that I can do 105-115kph cruise speed on flat land at just under 3000 RPM. Engine temp is nominal at 1/3rd of gauge reading.

Truck is running quite well now at highway speed, thanks to the Italian Tune Up.
