I received a PM in regards this thread http://www.delica.ca/forum/toyota-hzj79r-4931.html entitled must be nice to be a 'moderator'

The user continued to argue the point that I no longer have any interest in discussing, then proceeded to say: "as usual, the moderators on here abuse their power to push their own agenda."

I am a big boy and can take criticism for myself, and I will admit I walked a fine line of getting involved, however I was asked to by crushers to end the circular argument, which it should have in my opinion. I do not agree with painting all moderators with the same brush, as there are a number of people who donate (that's right, no one here gets paid, we do it to keep things organized and civil so this resource is a useful as possible) a lot of their time to keep this board usable, including myself.

With that said, I will gladly, in a second, give up the word 'moderator' under my name. Maybe I should, I don't even own a delica anymore. However there are people here I like and ideas I enjoy reading, so I stick around. Deleting the occasional spam post or attempting to solve problems that people seem to get into is something I do when I see it is necessary, not something that gives me a raging power boner like some people here apparently think.

So, here it is, I would like the users to decide whether I am a moderator who abuses his power.

I'd rather not have that little word under my name than deal with this shit.

it ain't easy to moderate a forum, you can't make everyone happy.

now, how did you end up with 2 positive posts and yet one negative and one positive vote??

it is inappropriate for a moderator to moderate a discussion they are personally involved in.

Locking a thread may be appropriate. Stating which side they favour and THEN locking the thread is abuse. (and of course crushers likes you, you supported his illegal venture)

WOW, nice attitude? if a person is continually disruptive on a forum then are they really contributing in a positive way?

that is humorous. if anything, what i have seen on this site is long suffering endurance. On some sites both persons would be gone. some have no sense of heehaw at all.

Moderators are always faced with tough calls. Typically that call requires pissing off a minority to keep the majority on an even keel.

I know of forums where various recent threads would have been closed way before they were on here, so props to the admin team for being open enough to let the debate continue as long as it did.

I like this community as it has a lot of great, like minded people, plus having lots of good stories and information. Sometimes, folks have different opinions, and after a couple of posts, these need to be taken to PM's. Don't hang the dirty laundry out in the air for all to see. It just degrades the both of you.

What's the point to going to PM when even the moderators don't have the integrity to respond to PMs without posting them in the General discussion forum? (only a couple days after it was pointed out how innappropriate it would be to post PMs in public no less!)

The person who PM'd was not named, and as far as I am concerned, that person is still unknown. Nor was the actual PM published. What Adrock was questioning was whether the general populace of this website still trust his moderation.

EDIT: I would actually suggest that this board needs more active moderators. Mararmeisto & Adrock do a good job, but they cannot be active all the time, nor does two give the option to make a good group consensus in the (I assume we have this) moderator only part of the noticeboard prior to publicly making an announcement or action that may impact the greater majority or those minorities.

Hey,
I am happy with your semi-divine powers
Of moderation.
I don't understand why some don't just start
A new thread when its so frikkin obvious
The cadence has turned way way way
Off the point of the original thread.

I have gleaned so much good info and
Met so many great people through this
Site, all of of which has been while you
Have been moderating.

I appreciate all the Moderators time
And Mark's too for making this
Site possible.I would have been right
Hooped without it.

Right On!
Carry on! 8-)

The nature of the PM was posted, and as there were only 2 people involved in the fight, stating that the side opposite the moderator's choice PM'd him states exactly who it was.

This is innapropriate. ESPECIALLY being that he didn't respond to the PM himself at all, only publically.

I did not respond privately because it wasn't worth it to me. It could not go a good direction, as we quite obviously disagree.

I took offense to what was said about moderators on this forum as I do not speak for the group. This thread was a question of whether the majority felt the same way as the user does about me, and I felt it necessary to include some background. I hope everyone takes this into account as well, as I completely stand behind my actions.

Adrock, the very fact that you even ask everyone's opinion shows you are doing a great job and thinking twice about what you do as moderator.

As others have pointed out, many other forums would have banned some of the offenders. The fact you haven't (although some of them seem to be bucking for it) shows restraint on your part.

The job description doesn't require impartiality, only "moderation" (attempting a really bad pun). That you have done. Keep up the good work.
