I know there are some threads to do with pulling trailers, but specifically I'm giving some thought to buying a 70s vintage Boler or equivalent mainly because they a comparatively lightweight. They vary from year to year and based on options and how heavily packed of course, but a quick search online suggests loaded they'd be around 1600lbs with a tongue weight around 160lbs. Is this a reasonable load for a Delica to pull w/o causing it cardiac arrest? Thoughts?

OR you could go with one of these. Built in Parksville on the Alberni Highway at Pine Tree Centre....

Hi Again Todd,
For what its worth, I pulled a 700 lb trailer and a stuffed car with 3 kids and their gear over the Duffey Lake road last year and I really hardly noticed the trailer back there... really. I have a 5 speed so I was gearing down on the downhills to save the brakes but the motor seemed happy to have something to haul. My tongue wait was under 100 lbs. and it still handled fine. Sheesh, did I have the roof racks on too?
Hmmm, well your talking about twice as much I guess... so.... maybe its not worth that much.

SO 'puter guy; Know how much those wee-kenders cost? Nothing on their site about prices. Sweet little units though.... Where to park it the rest of the year?

Sorry don't know prices off-hand. There are so many options you would have to contact Doug Meston, the owner, to get a price. I just look after computer and web work for them..

They are sweet though and very light to tow.

Hi Guys,
The Wee Kender is nice as teardrops go - and I considered one briefly - but I need to sleep four which is how I came around to considering a vintage Boler or Trillium et al. However I'm shocked at what some people are asking for these units. Thanks Brett for your experiences, and I would expect to be able to pull one. It's not like these vans are terribly underpowered. And it's also about how you drive while pulling a load.

FYI If you happen to be in a hurry to spend a load of cash: http://basecamp.airstream.com/

looking at the UK site, some of the people on there are pulling some fairly serious trailers with the Delica and nobody has ever reported on the Delica not being up to the task... while I haven't personally done any towing, what I have discovered is that while these things are gutless, it doesn't seem to matter how much you load them down, they don't get any worse.

I think the delica could easily handle a boler, but you probably have the auto trans, just make sure you have a trans cooler on it, if you dont have one GET one. you will heat up your trans pulling anything, and at $50-100bucks for a trans cooler at lordco you will never regret spending that little bit of added asurance.
